PROVIDENCIALES, Turks & Caicos Islands: Beaches Turks and Caicos recently welcomed over 100 students from secondary and tertiary level institutions as part of the resort’s annual internship programme. This year could be considered the most anticipated following the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between The Sandals Corporate University (SCU), and the Turks and Caicos Islands Community College (TCICC).
Under this collaborative agreement, the SCU and TCICC aim to enhance the skillsets and qualifications of local talents within the Turks and Caicos Islands while diversifying the course offerings of college’s Hospitality and Tourism Programme. This initiative seeks to provide invaluable opportunities for students to gain practical experience and industry insights.
Nyobi Selver-Field, third year student in Management Information Systems at the TCICC shared, “my goal for this programme is to garner the hands-on skills to merge with the theoretical knowledge that I have been receiving in school. Beaches Turks and Caicos, being the resort with the widest professional scope, I am looking forward to learning from the Information Technology leaders in this field.”
Clement Howell past student and final year nursing student at Northern Caribbean University in Jamaica, Huloy Green, shared that this is her third time participating in the internship programme at BTC. “Getting this opportunity to build my work experience as a senior university student will allow me to earn financially and professionally. The team at BTC consistently provides mentorship and networking opportunities for the interns.”
Human Resources Manager, Owenta Coleby, reasoned that the partnership with the TCI Community College will have a positive long term impact. “We continue to prepare and cater to the training needs of youngsters in the TCI and we are looking forward to this team of young professionals being trained and fully equipped to transform the tourism industry, other sectors and our country,” noted Coleby.
