MOHHS Warns About the Sale and Purchase of Robitussin Honey CF Max Day and Night Time Adult Products

#TurksandCaicos#MinistryofHealth, January 25th, 2024 – Cockburn Town, Turks and Caicos Islands, 25th January 2024The Ministry of Health and Human Services (MoHHS) wishes to notify all local suppliers and the general public about the drug recall circulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This voluntary recall – led by Haleon – concerns Robitussin Honey CF Max Day Adult and Robitussin Honey CF Max Nighttime Adult Products and is initiated due to microbial contamination (please see link below).

 Robitussin Honey CF Max Day and Nighttime are cough syrups that are used for the temporary relief of symptoms occurring with cold or flu, hayfever, or other respiratory allergies. Consumers, especially immunocompromised individuals, should note that the affected product can potentially result in severe or life-threatening adverse events such as fungemia (fungi or yeast in the blood) or disseminated fungal infection (infection spreads from one area of the body to other organ systems).

 The MoHHS’ top priority is to ensure public health safety and so wishes to advise consumers to stop using the mentioned products if found on the market and contact their respective local suppliers. Local suppliers and consumers may contact the Environmental Health Department at 338-2142 for more information on how best to dispose of these Robitussin products.

 In addition, consumers should contact their pharmacist, physician or other healthcare provider if they have any questions, concerns or have experienced any problems related to the use of these Robitussin productsConsumers are also advised to report any side effects via the MoHHS’ Adverse Drug Reaction Form found at https://gov.tc/docs/ADR.pdf.

Jamaican gets multi-million dollar grant to enhance resilience

Jamaica got a 3 million US dollar grant from humanitarian charity organisation Direct Relief, as part of its mission to strengthen resilience in the Caribbean region. This is also an effort to enhance Healthcare systems and infrastructure throughout Jamaica in preparation for natural disasters as the organization renews its ongoing partnership with the island. This was announced by Direct Relief in an article on May 1.

Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana sign security agreement

To enhance and strengthen security in the Guiana Shield, Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana on Monday April 29, signed a security common master plan following a meeting in George Town, as announced By President of Guyana Irfaan Ali on Facebook. Ali expressed that the agreement will hopefully enhance collaborations and relations between Suriname and French Guiana.

Grenada Prime Minister says there needs to be greater focus on coral health in the region’s universities.

The Prime Minister of Grenada, Dickon Mitchell, at the 2024 Sustainable Tourism Conference on April 22, expressed that Caribbean universities should be leading researchers for coral restoration as he addressed the importance of corals to the region’s capacity for tourism sustainability amid climate change

Regarding this, he called for more funding to encourage universities to create more marine experts, given the region’s vulnerability to climate change effects.
