New Judge Coming for Mike Misick & Others, CJ Recuses Herself

#TurksandCaicos, June 29, 2023 – Chief Justice the Hon. Mabel Agyemang on Thursday June 22, 2023 recused herself from trying the second part or part two of the SIPT trial.
Appearing in the Supreme Court, Turks and Caicos Islands on Tuesday 20th June, 2023, before Her Ladyship the Hon Chief Justice was the former premier and attorney MICHAEL MISICK and his brother, also an attorney THOMAS CHALMERS MISICK and former minister of Government MCALLISTER HANCHELL.
Sitting in the front row was the accused Michael Misick*and his attorney, Mr. Gilbert Peterson KC and his defense team, behind him in the second row was his brother, who is an attorney *Thomas Chalmers Misick with his attorney Mr. Malcolm Bishop KC and his defense team and in the third row was McAllister Hanchell, a former government minister with his attorney Mr. Jerome Lynch KC and his defense team.
The matter was listed for Plea and Directions Hearing (PDH) as the accused were to be arraigned, charges read to them, pleas taken and the trial began. However, before the PDH could properly commenced, the Hon Chief Justice
advised Mr. Andrew Mitchell, KC, for the prosecution, who is assisted by Mr. Quinn Hawkins, Ms. Katherine “Kate” Duncan and Ms. Mickia Mills and the entire court that she has something to say.
She then began by saying that ‘I don’t think I can handle this matter as she has been involved in the first trial and there may very well be overlapping evidence.’
The Chief Justice was referring to the SIPT trial (part #1) which was against Floyd Hall, Jeffrey Hall, Melbourne Wilson and Clayton Greene. She is now in deliberations on that trial presently.
The Chief Justice does not feel that she is the best person to continue with the second part of the SIPT trial, which would also last for months and could run possibly to the end of 2024 (next year).
There was discussion as to when part two of the SIPT trial will restart and when a new judge will be appointed.
The Chief Justice said that it will be speedily ‘but we do not have a judge appointed as yet, the process of getting a new judge has begun and it will be dealt with instantaneously.’
The Defendants were released back on bail pending the same conditions and she also advised that legal aid in the matter for all counsels is also extended and continues.
The CJ advised the counsels (albeit lightheartedly) that are they are being paid through legal aid and they must continue to work as there is no specific date the next trial will start.
The Hon Chief Justice reminded all Counsel and the Defendants that as she has said and stands by that “no matter how many years has passed in this case, the results of it should be acceptable.”

Following a police shooting incident on May 14th, the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force (RTCIPF) is now able to name the deceased male subject, with the permission of the family.
The Serious Crime Unit contacted the relatives of the deceased, and formal identification has taken place, with the subject being identified as 14-year-old Antorens Dorcely, also known locally as ‘Toto’. 
During this challenging time, the RTCIPF also expressed its deepest condolences to the deceased’s family, and the force will continue to offer support through our Family Liaison Officer.
In light of this incident, the RTCIPF is urging the public to show respect and sensitivity towards the grieving family by refraining from sharing any footage of the deceased on social media.
Sharing such material can cause additional distress and harm. We emphasize the importance of empathy and respect for the family’s privacy as they navigate their grief. The death of any young person is a loss to the TCI.
The RTCIPF is committed and dedicated to conducting a thorough investigation and ensuring that all aspects of the incident are carefully examined and the findings are communicated transparently to the public.
A request has been made to an external police force to conduct a review of the incident. This is a routine procedure and intended to ensure an independent and objective review of the facts. The community’s cooperation and respect during this time are essential. The RTCIPF assures the public that we remain dedicated to upholding justice and accountability.
Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands – May 14th, 2024 – The Turks and Caicos Islands Government and Molo Hotel Group reached a pivotal juncture on Monday, May 13th, 2024, with the ceremonial signing of a development agreement at the Premier’s Office on Providenciales. Molo has committed to provide employment and apprentice opportunities to TCICC students and provide mentoring and practical on property training to students.
The signing event was graced by Hon. Charles Washington Missick, Premier of the Turks and Caicos Islands, Hon. Jamell Robinson, Deputy Premier, Hon. #TurksandCaicos, May 13, 2024 – Detectives of the Serious Crime Unit of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force have
charged a man who allegedly stole a vehicle.
The accused, DANVANTE BRISCO, 30, of Kew Town, Providenciales, was charged with:
- One Count: Robbery
- One Count: Taking Motor Vehicle Without Authority
- One Count: Using Offensive Weapon to cause fear
Mr. BRISCO appeared in court today (May 13 ) and was granted bail of $7500.00 with one surety.
The matter was adjourned to July 05 for a Sufficiency Hearing.
