Scabies outbreak causes Bahamas to close high school

Providenciales, 04 Feb 2015 – Students of the Donald Davis High School in Nassau will return to classes today after the Bahamas Ministry of Health had to shut the institution down when five cases of scabies were found there. While it was explained that the scabies cases were not contracted at the school located in the Palmdale area of Nassau, Health officials quarantined the patients and restricted access to the premises until a thorough clean-up was complete. Scabies is the third most common skin infection in children, caused by a mite and contagious with skin to skin contact. The World Health Organization classifies Scabies as a water-related disease which causes severe itching.
