Attorney General Co-Chaired Gathering in Miami

Providenciales, 21 Nov 2014 – The international reputations of the Turks and Caicos Islands and other British Overseas Territories was top of mind at a gathering held in Miami, Florida where eleven of the Attorneys General met for a two day meeting. Rhondalee Knowles represented The Turks and Caicos Islands and said there were five main areas these AGs needed to come to consensus on… and they did.

A commitment she called it to work together on meeting global standards in tackling bribery and corruption… the AGs aimed to address the gaps in Territories’ legislation to cope more ably with fraud and corruption cases; there was agreement to simplify and improve extradition and mutual legal assistance arrangements, through the UK Extradition Act; greater protection for children and so a commitment to develop and implement what the group called robust measures for little ones and better exchange on UK and Territory legislative programs, which should enhance the process of drafting laws; this could include sharing resources.

That meeting welcomed US and Canadian representatives and was chaired by the UK Solicitor General, Robert Buckland QC, MP and co-chaired by Mrs. Braithwaite-Knowles, OBE who was attending for the first time.
