January 11, 2023 – The Swedish-Cuban Solidarity Association has announced that it plans to ship two 40-foot containers collected in Sweden and Denmark to Cuba to assist the Caribbean nation with the economic blockade imposed by the US.

In statements to the state news agency of Cuba, Prensa Latina, President of the organization, Zoltan Tiroler, said the shipment consists of 18 tons of aid for the country’s health, education, agriculture, electronics and construction sectors.

The items, which are expected to arrive in Cuba at the end of January, include medical and electronic equipment, agricultural tools, toiletries, masks, surgical gloves, syringes, material for schools and other supplies for health care.

They will be sent to various provinces across Cuba, such as schools in eastern Santiago de Cuba, Holguin and Western Pinar del Rio, and hospitals in Eastern Las Tunas.

Tiroler said the Swedish organisation planned to donate 55,000 euros to Cuba last year to help the country combat the effects of the US blockade, but the money transfer was difficult; as such, they decided to buy and ship equipment and supplies to Cuba.
