#TurksandCaicos, April 29, 2021 – Renewed hope for TCI as the new CDC cruise guidelines shows possibilities of Cruise return to Grand Turk by August as fully vaccinated persons are allowed to stay outdoors without masks unless in crowded spaces.
“If you are vaccinated, things are much safer for you,” CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said Tuesday, April 27, at a White House briefing.
“If you are fully vaccinated and want to attend a small outdoor gathering — with people who are vaccinated and unvaccinated — or dine at an outdoor restaurant with friends from multiple households, the science shows you can do so safely, unmasked,” added the CDC director.
According to the new guidelines, those fully vaccinated only need to wear masks when attending sporting events, live performances, or parades.
Additionally, social distancing is no longer a requirement for fully vaccinated individuals while interacting with vaccinated and a mix of both vaccinated and non-vaccinated persons.
Compared to the earlier mask-wearing guidelines, the current developments show that CDC continues to ease the tough procedures, giving hope for a possible return to normal-cruise and tourism guidelines.
“We continue to recommend masking in crowded outdoor settings and venues such as packed stadiums and concerts where there is decreased ability to maintain physical distance and where many unvaccinated people may also be present,” Walensky warned.
“We will continue to recommend this until widespread vaccination is achieved,” the CDC director added.
The new guidelines leaves out those not fully vaccinated. They are expected to maintain a 1.5m social distance and put on their masks while in crowded and uncrowded areas, except when dining.
With the vaccines proving the best approach to ending the current global pandemic, the TCI government has ramped up the vaccination drive to get at least 70 per cent of the population vaccinated by July.
The boosted vaccination efforts are preparing for the full reopening of the economy and reviving Grand Turk businesses that heavily depend on the cruise tourism sector.
