#Bahamas, October 16, 2017 – Nassau – THIS IS THE BAHAMAS PUBLIC FORECAST FOR TODAY AND TONIGHT MONDAY 16TH OCTOBER 2017 ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY AT 6AM.

GENERAL SITUATION:  A SURFACE LOW COUPLED WITH A WESTWARD MOVING TROPICAL WAVE WILL MOVE NEAR THE SOUTHERN BAHAMAS TODAY WHILE A WEAK SURFACE TROUGH WEST OF THE BAHAMAS AND A TROUGH ALOFT ACROSS THE BAHAMAS CONTINUES TO SUPPORT UNSETTLED WEATHER ACROSS THE ISLANDS.

SPECIAL WARNINGS: BOATERS SHOULD REMAIN ALERT AS THERE REMAINS THE POTENTIAL FOR WATERSPOUT FORMATION.

WEATHER: A MIX OF SUN AND CLOUDS WITH WIDELY SCATTERED SHOWERS AND ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS BY AFTERNOON. MAINLY FAIR TONIGHT.

ADVISORY: BOATERS SHOULD BE ALERT FOR GUSTY WINDS AND HIGHER SEAS IN OR NEARS HEAVY SHOWERS OR THUNDERSTORMS.

WINDS: NORTHEAST TO EAST AT 10 TO 15 KNOTS FALLING LIGHT AND VARIABLE AT TIMES OVER OPEN WATERS.

EXTENDED FORECAST: A BROAD SURFACE TROUGH WITH A SURFACE LOW IN THE VICINITY OF THE SOUTHEAST BAHAMAS AND THE TURKS AND CAICOS WILL MOVE NORTH AND NORTHEAST ALONG THE SURFACE TROUGH OVER THE NEXT DAY OR TWO WHILE A COLD FRONT WILL MOVE OFF THE COAST OF THE UNITED STATES AND MERGE WITH THE TROUGH NEAR THE CENTRAL BAHAMAS ON WEDNESDAY BEFORE STALLING, THEN DRIFTING WESTWARD BY THE END OF THE WEEK.

WEATHER: A MIX OF SUN AND CLOUDS WITH WIDELY SCATTERED SHOWERS AND ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS BY AFTERNOON.

WINDS: VARIABLE AT 10 KNOTS OR LESS OVER OPEN WATERS.

SEAS: 3 FEET OR LESS OVER THE OCEAN.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK: A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM LOCATED ABOUT 100 MILES EAST-NORTHEAST OF THE TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS IS GRADUALLY BECOMING BETTER DEFINED.   THIS SYSTEM HAS A MEDIUM CHANCE OF 40 PERCENT FOR TROPICAL FORMATION THROUGH 48 HOURS AND A MEDIUM CHANCE OF 40 PERCENT THROUGH 5 DAYS.
