Opening of New Jewel Hotel testament to country’s High Status – Minister

jewel grande 1#Jamaica, September 29, 2017 – Montego Bay – Minister of Tourism, Hon. Edmund Bartlett, says the opening of the new Jewel Grande Montego Bay Resort & Spa in Rose Hall, St. James, is another testament to Jamaica’s status as the top Caribbean destination for high-end travel.

Addressing the opening ceremony on September 24, the Minister said he is “extremely happy” to see the commitment being made by insurance giant and owner Sagicor.

“Jamaica has been making steady inroads where I believe we can now safely say we are in control of the high-end market in the region,” he said.  “I am also very encouraged that we are not just sitting on our laurels but have been creating an investor-friendly climate to be attracting some of the top luxury brands in the world, where, inevitably, we will be seeing revenues that were once unthinkable,” the Minister added.

Mr. Bartlett said Jamaica is also benefiting from the “celebrity pull factor” where visitors are now coming to the island “because of the stars who have been here”.

“Once it is announced that they have been here or they are coming here, we tend to get a bounce from that as it relates to arrivals.   We saw that following the not-so-long-ago well-advertised visits from celebrities such as power couple Jay-Z and Beyoncé, Jude Law, Sir Richard Bronson, Sean Kingston, Nicky Minaj, Rihanna, and Ewan McGregor,” he noted.

For his part, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sagicor Real Estate X Fund Limited, Rohan Miller, said he is projecting earnings of US$200 million for all the properties that fall under the Jewel chain over the next calendar year.

“We now have five properties under the Jewel chain, all of which we are expecting to do very well,” Mr. Miller explained.   He added that the new property was conceptualised and driven by Jamaica’s “deeply rooted tradition of hospitality and cultural vibrancy”.

jewel grandPresident and Chief Executive Officer, Dave Johnson, said “it is an honour to launch one of the most exciting luxury all-inclusive resort openings in the Caribbean”.

“This beachfront location provides the ideal backdrop for our distinctive and curated experiences that are personalised for all our guests.   Unparalleled hospitality is our inspiration with the new Jewel Grande,” he added.

Chief Operating Officer of Aimbridge Hospitality, the entity in charge of managing all the Jewel properties, Richard Burg, said of the 85,000 hotel rooms that fall under his company’s portfolio in both the Caribbean and the United States, the Jewel Grande is the “most iconic”.
