Inmates graduate from anger management program

Providenciales, TCI, October 20, 2016 – On October 12 2016 a graduation ceremony was held at Her Majesty’s Prison (HMP), for eight (8) inmates that completed the most recent Anger Management Program.   The anger management program which began in 2007 has seen over 137 inmates graduated to date.  Each year, two cycles are conducted to train inmates in how to resolve conflicts and control their anger.

The program is facilitated by Mr. Stanley Been, Substance Abuse Counselor within the Department of Mental Health and Substance Dependence.  In his address to the graduates, Mr. Been encouraged them to lose sight of their past afflictions and focus on their future, using the negativity they once bottled inside as fuel for something positive.

Further remarks were received from the Hon. George Lightbourne, Minister of Home Affairs, Transportation and Communication; Mr. Raymond Grant, Deputy Superintendent of HMP; Dr. Alicia Malcolm, Director of the Department of Mental Health & Substance Dependence and Hon. Lillian Missick.

The Department of Mental Health & Substance Dependence, has been allotted future calendar dates so as to assist the prison with these support services.  This program continues to represent the collaborative work that is being done to aid in the rehabilitation of prisoners within the Turks and Caicos Islands.
