Providenciales, 19 Oct 2015 – The Turks and Caicos Islands retained the title of Leading beach destination winning six World Travel Awards at the 2015 Caribbean and North American Gala event held on the weekend in The Bahamas. It was the first time for the World Travel Awards to be staged in Great Exuma, Bahamas and the host resort was Sandals Emerald Bay Golf, Tennis & Spa resort which also won for Caribbean’s Leading conference hotel.
The Regent Palms secured two for its property in Providenciales, Karen Whitt, General Manager was there. “You know we have been fortunate and very blessed to have won so many awards and that is a testament and accolade to the strength of our team to the strength of the destination, to our partners all here this evening; each time it’s very exciting.”
Tourist Board executive, Wayne Garland collected on behalf of the Regent Grand Resort. “It says a lot for the property, the Regent Grand is a very private but very nice, boutique styled hotel so it says a lot for the property and the people who work behind the scenes to make the property do well.”
Cesar Campbell picked up the prize for Olympia Destination Management Company, which got Caribbean’s Leading in that category.
TCI Tourist Board Director Ralph Higgs said despite the numerous wins for Grace Bay Beach, it still feels good to collect the top prize. “I think we can expect, the world can expect that Grace Bay Beach will continue to be considered one of the premier beaches if not the most beautiful beach on the planet. The Lord does not make beaches anymore, so I think we are lucky.”
The Bahamas won for Caribbean Leading luxury island destination and Tourism Minister, Hon Obadiah Wilchcombe was presented a special prize as Caribbean’s Leading Tourism Personality for 2015.
The biggest winner of the night was Sandals Resorts International snagging a slew of WTAs including Caribbean Leading hotel brand.
