Severe Weather Warning has been Extended and Now Includes Abaco

THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY HAS EXTENDED THE SEVERE WEATHER WARNING FROM 7:30AM EDT UNTIL 9:00AM, WEDNESDAY, 29TH APRIL, 2015.

A SEVERE WEATHER WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR BIMINI, GRAND BAHAMA AND THE BERRY ISLANDS AND NOW INCLUDES ABACO AND THEIR ADJACENT WATERS.

AT 7:25AM, RADAR AND SATELLITE IMAGERY MAINTAINED CLUSTERS OF ORGANIZED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ASSOCIATED WITH A STATIONARY FRONTAL BOUNDARY MOVING EASTWARDS ACROSS THE NW BAHAMAS.

SOME OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE STRONG TO SEVERE AT TIMES CAUSING STRONG GUSTY WINDS, DANGEROUS LIGHTNING, HEAVY DOWNPOURS THAT COULD LEAD TO FLOODING IN LOW LYING AND FLOOD PRONE AREAS, HAIL AND POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT OR TORNADIC ACTIVITY.

BOATERS IN THE WARNING AREA SHOULD SEEK SAFE HARBOUR AND RESIDENTS IN THE WARNING AREA SHOULD STAY INDOORS AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS WHEN CONDITIONS WORSEN. RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER TREES OR IN WATER AS THESE CAN BECOME LIGHTENING CONDUCTORS.
