TCI heads to WORLD Travel Awards

#TurksandCaicos, September 2, 2022 – The Turks and Caicos is the most romantic destination in the Caribbean according to the world travel awards.  The Island netted multiple titles on Wednesday night at the annual WTA ceremony for its tourism excellence.

The islands were up for 8 awards across several of the most coveted categories including:

  • Leading Beach Destination
  • Caribbean‘s Leading Cruise Destination
  • Caribbean‘s Leading Destination
  • Caribbean’s  Leading Dive Destination
  • Most Romantic Destination
  • Caribbean’s Leading Honeymoon Destination
  • Leading Luxury Island destination, and
  • Caribbean’s Leading Tourist Board 2022

The Turks and Caicos won two of those 8 nominations:

  • Leading Beach Destination, and
  • Most Romantic Destination

Multiple companies in The Turks and Caicos also walked away with top spots, those companies included:

  • Leading All Suite Hotel – The Palms
  • Leading Beach Resort – Amanyara Turks and Caicos
  • Leading All inclusive Family Resort – Beaches Turks and Caicos
  • Leading Luxury Island Resort – Sailrock Resort Turks and Caicos
  • Caribbean’s Leading Hotel Suite – Villas Grace Bay Penthouse Suite at Grace Bay Club

The host country Jamaica took home the lion’s share of the prizes, as tourism stakeholders from across the Americas met in Montego Bay on August 31st for the event.

Attending for the Turks and Caicos were Josephine Connolly, Minister with responsibility for Tourism, accompanied by Permanent Secretary Cheryl-Ann Jones, the acting Director of Tourism, Mary Lightbourne and Mr. Caesar Campbell.

The World Travel Awards is the premier Travel Awards ever  for hoteliers worldwide, and awards for the various categories come with major bragging rights and major exposure.

Guyana’s financial support for Palestine

#Palestine#Guyana, April 24, 2024 – A cheque of over GY$110 million which is USD$500 thousand, was presented to President Irfaan Ali, at a handover ceremony on April 23, in support of Palestine for Humanitarian efforts, according to reports.

The money, raised by Muslims and non Muslims, comes after an appeal by the National Ramadan Village during the month of Ramadan.

It will be sent to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine refugees (UNRWA) to help the victims of the ongoing war.

Royal Caribbean Cancels Haiti Trips

#Haiti#RoyalCaribbean, April 26, 2024- Royal Caribbean has decided to cancel all of its trips to Labadee, a popular destination in Haiti due to the worsening crisis, putting further strain on the country’s tourism sector. Cancellations were initially set to last until mid March but now they have been extended through the summer into September, according to a post by Royal Caribbean. A spokesperson for the organization is reported saying the Global Security and Intel team is monitoring the situation in Haiti, further expressing that the cancellations come as the safety and security of its guests are top priority.

Haiti Transitional Council Sworn in- Henry Officially Resigns

#Haiti#TransitionalCouncil#ArielHenry, April 26, 2024 – Haiti’s de facto Prime Minister Ariel Henry officially resigned, following the swearing in of the nine member transitional presidential council on Thursday April 25, 2024. He publicly announced his resignation in a post on Facebook. This follows Henry’s promise last month to exit office after gang members blocked his return to Haiti from Kenya.
