Entry Requirement dropped in St. Kitts & Nevis

#StKittsandNevis, August 20, 2022 – As of Monday, August 15, the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis has removed all COVID-19-related entry requirements.

Unvaccinated and vaccinated travellers visiting the twin-island Caribbean nation are no longer required to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test to enter the Federation. This includes citizens, residents, and international travellers.

The end of the entry and testing protocols was announced by the newly elected Prime Minister, Dr Terrance Drew, who also serves as the Federation’s Health Minister.

In speaking at the Swearing-in ceremony of the Cabinet on August 13, 2022, Drew announced that all COVID-19-related health and travel restrictions implemented in 2020 be removed. He noted that his administration is about improving people’s lives and livelihoods.

“For many months, well before the election campaign began, I challenged the former government continuously to end the travel restrictions placed on our people that no longer had any scientific or medical merit. It was clear these restrictions were being used to oppress and suppress the will of you, the people,” the Health Minister said.

He added: “Why should citizens of this country have to seek permission to enter the land of their birth? Therefore, I have instructed that forthwith, all COVID-19-related health and travel restrictions be removed.”

While entry testing and vaccination requirements have ended under the new guidelines, officials noted that inbound passengers are required to complete an online Embarkation-Disembarkation (ED) card online “for ease of transit through the country’s border management agencies.

Jamaican gets multi-million dollar grant to enhance resilience

Jamaica got a 3 million US dollar grant from humanitarian charity organisation Direct Relief, as part of its mission to strengthen resilience in the Caribbean region. This is also an effort to enhance Healthcare systems and infrastructure throughout Jamaica in preparation for natural disasters as the organization renews its ongoing partnership with the island. This was announced by Direct Relief in an article on May 1.

Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana sign security agreement

To enhance and strengthen security in the Guiana Shield, Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana on Monday April 29, signed a security common master plan following a meeting in George Town, as announced By President of Guyana Irfaan Ali on Facebook. Ali expressed that the agreement will hopefully enhance collaborations and relations between Suriname and French Guiana.

Grenada Prime Minister says there needs to be greater focus on coral health in the region’s universities.

The Prime Minister of Grenada, Dickon Mitchell, at the 2024 Sustainable Tourism Conference on April 22, expressed that Caribbean universities should be leading researchers for coral restoration as he addressed the importance of corals to the region’s capacity for tourism sustainability amid climate change

Regarding this, he called for more funding to encourage universities to create more marine experts, given the region’s vulnerability to climate change effects.
