#Bahamas, October 26, 2017 – THIS IS THE BAHAMAS PUBLIC FORECAST FOR TODAY AND TONIGHT THURSDAY 26TH OCTOBER 2017 ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY AT 6AM.

GENERAL SITUATION:  A COLD FRONT ACROSS THE CENTRAL BAHAMAS CONTINUES TO PUSH SOUTHEASTWARDS WHILE HIGH PRESSURE AND A DRIER AIRMASS WILL MOVE INTO THE AREA IN WAKE OF THE FRONT.

NORTHWEST BAHAMAS

WEATHER: PARTLY SUNNY, BREEZY AND MILD WITH AN ISOLATED SHOWER OR TWO POSSIBLE. FAIR AND COOL TONIGHT.

ADVISORY: SMALL CRAFT CAUTION REMAINS IN EFFECT TODAY.

WINDS: NORTHWEST TO NORTH AT 15 TO 20 KNOTS BECOMING NORTH TO NORTHEAST AT 10 TO 15 KNOTS BY TONIGHT OVER OPEN WATERS.

SEAS:    4 TO 6 FEET SUBSIDING 2 TO 4 FEET BY TONIGHT OVER THE OCEAN.

WEATHER: PARTLY TO MOSTLY SUNNY AND COOL WITH THE CHANCE OF AN ISOLATED SHOWER OR TWO.

WINDS: EAST TO SOUTHEAST AT 10 TO 15 KNOTS OVER OPEN WATERS.

SEAS: 2 TO 4 FEET OVER THE OCEAN.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK: A BROAD AREA OF LOW PRESSURE LOCATED OVER THE WESTERN CARIBBEAN SEA AND CENTRAL AMERICA ARE GRADUALLY BECOMING BETTER ORGANIZED.   CLOSE PROXIMITY TO LAND IS LIKELY TO LIMIT DEVELOPMENT OF THIS SYSTEM ON THURSDAY.   REGARDLESS OF DEVELOPMENT, LOCALLY HEAVY RAINS ARE LIKELY OVER PORTIONS OF CENTRAL AMERICA AND CUBA DURING THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS.   THIS SYSTEM HAS A LOW CHANCE OF 30 PERCENT OF TROPICAL CYCLONE FORMATION THROUGH 48 HOURS AND A MEDIUM CHANCE THROUGH 5 DAYS.

Bahamas economic growth

The Bahamas’ economy is in good standing according to reports from the Bahamas National Statistical Institute which released the Quarterly Gross Domestic Product Series. They indicate that quarterly GDP trends for 2023 saw increases compared to 2022, a sign of recovery from the Covid 19 pandemic.

The most significant increase was 9.9 percent in the first quarter of 2023, and the industries responsible for the growth include Accommodations and food, construction and Arts.

In just a few days, athletes from over fifty countries will converge in The Bahamas for the BTC World Athletic Relays Bahamas 24. C&W Communications, the parent company of BTC, is proud to be associated with this major event, which will see athletes from The Bahamas, Barbados, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago competing for a place in the upcoming Olympic games in Paris.

Inge Smidts, CEO of C&W Communications, who also serves as Chair of the BTC Board of Directors will be in the stands to witness the highly anticipated relays. Smidts says, this was an event that she simply could not miss. “We are proud to support our Caribbean athletes, and we wish them well as they vie for a spot in the Olympic games.

BTC has hosted a special event just for the Caribbean athletes, at the newly renovated Queen’s Staircase in Nassau, a recently renovated historic landmark visited by thousands of tourists each day. This event gave athletes the opportunity to unwind, mingle, and to learn more about each other right before the competition.

This is the fourth time that BTC and its parent company C&W Communications have title sponsored the world relays. The BTC World Athletic Relays will be held at the Thomas A. Robinson Track & Field Stadium from May 4-5, under the theme, “Chase the Sun, from Paradise to Paris.”
