Inter-High and Inter-Primary Track and Field Championships set to end TCI School Sports Season 2023/24 with a bang

Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands, February 19, 2023 – The Turks and Caicos Islands School Sports (TCISS) Track and Field season is in full effect and post the completion of the Track and Field Development meets, the tension has intensified.

On February 10 and 17, the TCAAA alongside the TCI Sports Commission hosted Track and Field Development Meets, to allow athletes to compete and see where they fare up against their peers before the ultimate Nationals. The Distance and Jumps meet took place first with Sprints and Jumps following the following Saturday.

 

Athlete to Watch

CARIFTA Medalist Love Joseph did not compete in the Distance and Jumps meet, however, he has competed in a few regional meets this year. Joseph won the 800m and 1500m at the Diana Lynn Thompson Invitational on February 10 in Nassau, Bahamas. In the 1500m, he ran 4:22:17 which is a season’s best but not his personal best. In the 800m, he achieved a personal best time of 2:05:86. He now attends the Clement Howell High School, last year competing for the A. Louise Garland Thomas High School.

He also achieved a personal best time of 4:15:37 in the 1500m at the Youngsters Goldsmith Track and Field meet at the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica on February 3, 2024.
Inter-High School Track and Field Championships (Nationals) | February 29 – March 2
The three-day event will take place at the National Stadium on Venetian Road from Thursday to Saturday, slated to be a showstopping weekend. Junior athletes will not just be competing for a place on the podium, they will also be vying for a spot on the National Team to compete in the CARIFTA Games. This year’s CARIFTA is set to take place in Grenada from March 30 – April 1.
Following on from last year, the medal count determines the Champions of the competition, with gold holding the most weight. Last year, the A. Louise Garland Thomas High School came out on top with 18 Gold, 22 Silver and 13 Bronze medals. Clement Howell High School followed with 16 Gold 6 Silver and 10 Bronze medals with Marjorie Basden High School in third with 12 Gold 9 Silver and 8 Bronze medals.
The full event schedule will be released closer to the competition’s date.

How to Watch
Entry tickets will be sold at the booth, $10 for adults and $5 for children per day. The event will be livestreamed from the TCI Sports Commission and FLOW our streaming partner’s Facebook page and YouTube channel. It will also be broadcast via radio on RTC 89.1 FM.
Inter-Primary School Track and Field Championships | March 19 – 21
This year, primary school students will once again get their chance to show what they are made of. The Primary School Championships bring in a high number of schools participating with 18 schools partaking last year. Likewise, following on from last year, the medal count determines the Champions of the competition, with gold holding the most weight.
The two-time champions Ona Glinton Primary School clinched the win in 2022/23 with 19 medals total – 8 Gold 6 Silver and 5 Bronze. Second Place Ianthe Pratt Primary School took home 20 medals – 7 Gold, 7 Silver and 6 Bronze while Richmond Hill Primary School placed third with 12 medals – 7 Gold, 2 Silver and 3 Bronze.

Police Action League Set for Semifinal Showdowns This Weekend

Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands – Thursday, 21 August 2025: The Police Action League (PAL) is set for a decisive weekend as the basketball semifinals tip off this Saturday, August 23, alongside the fourth matchup of the PAL Softball 5-game series.

Basketball action begins with the final 13U league group games, where teams fight for playoff seeding. The Avengers (4–1) currently lead the standings, followed by the Guardians and Badgers (both 3–2).

  • 9:00 AM – Avengers vs. Badgers (13U)
  • 10:00 AM – Guardians vs. Seaquest (13U)

The semifinals follow for the 15U and 17U divisions:

15U Boys Division

  • 11:00 AM – #2 Sea Quest (3–1) vs. #3 Skyhawks (2–2)
  • 12:00 PM – #1 Guardians (4–0) vs. #4 Avengers (1–3)

17U Boys Division

  • 1:00 PM – #2 Avengers (2–2) vs. #3 Badgers (2–2)
  • 2:00 PM – #1 Sea Quest (4–0) vs. #4 Skyhawks (2–2)

This year’s competition has been fueled by standout performers across the leagues. Rhomano Dumesle (13U) has been dominant, averaging nearly 20 points per game and pulling down an impressive 61 rebounds in five games. In the 15U division, Jodias Cineus has led the way with an average of 15.8 points per game, while Dashawn Lightbourne (17U) has contributed across the board with 78 total points and 20 rebounds.

On the softball diamond, the Badgers and Skyhawks meet again in their pivotal fourth showdown of the best-of-five PAL Softball Series. The Skyhawks currently lead 2–1 and can close the series with a win this Saturday at 9:30 AM at the Downtown Ballpark. Key contributors include Jayanna Ferguson, who leads the series in runs scored (3), and Denicka Robinson, who tops the RBI chart with 2.

All basketball games will be played at the Gustavus Lightbourne Sports Complex. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children, which grant access to both sports on the day.

Nine Swimmers to Represent Turks and Caicos at 2025 Goodwill Championship

Turks and Caicos, August 15, 2025 – The Turks and Caicos Islands Swim Federation is proud to announce that nine talented swimmers will represent the Turks and Caicos Islands National Team at the 2025 Goodwill Swimming Championship, scheduled to take place in Barbados from August 15–17, 2025.

This year marks a historic milestone, as Turks and Caicos will participate not as an invited nation but as a full member nation, a status officially granted earlier this year through the efforts of the Turks and Caicos Islands Swim Federation.

The team will be led by Head Coach Bennett Williams, assisted by Coach Lincoln Martin, with Team Manager Snjezana Andrews overseeing logistics and support.

We extend our best wishes to our swimmers as they take on some of the region’s best athletes and continue to make the Turks and Caicos Islands proud on the international stage.

Two Swimmers to Represent Turks and Caicos at 2025 World Aquatics Junior Championships

Turks and Caicos, August 15, 2025 – The Turks and Caicos Islands Swim Federation proudly announces that Gabrielle Martin and Rishith Gururaja will be representing our nation at the prestigious World Aquatics Junior Swimming Championships 2025, taking place in Otopeni, Romania, from August 19–24, 2025.

Roydoya Alleyne and Mary Martin will serve as both Team Officials, supporting the swimmers throughout the competition.

Host City & Venue Highlights:

Located just outside the Romanian capital, Bucharest, Otopeni has rapidly become a key destination for international sporting events—thanks in part to its world-class facilities and dedication to aquatic excellence.

The Championships will be hosted at the Otopeni Aquatics Complex, a purpose-built facility featuring:

  • A 50 m × 25 m main competition pool
  • A 25 m × 15 m competition pool
  • Diving pool and additional leisure/recovery pools
  • Seating capacity for approximately 2,400–2,797 spectators

This modern complex opened its doors with the 2022 European Junior Swimming Championships, followed by hosting the 2023 European Short Course Swimming Championships and other major international aquatic events

This year’s championships are expected to draw more than 600 promising junior swimmers from over 100 national federations, providing invaluable exposure and competition experience for athletes like Gabrielle and Rishith.

We wish Gabrielle Martin and Rishith Gururaja all the very best as they proudly represent the Turks and Caicos Islands on the global stage. Their journey is not just a personal achievement—it’s a testament to the increasing strength and reputation of our swimming program.
