Half a Million in Marijuana Found on Haitian Sloops says TCI Police

#TurksandCaicos, September 11, 2023 – It’s not just people that are coming in on the tiny fast boats that attempt to breach the Turks and Caicos, it’s drugs too, according to the Police who nabbed marijuana worth half a
million dollars ($500 000) on a sloop last week.
The revelation was made in a press release shared on September 5th, days after the two-day find on August 29th and 30th.
The Police had intercepted the vessel at sea but the occupants managed to escape, grounding the boat and fleeing into the bushes while officers watched.
What they left behind, some bobbing in the water near the vessel, were dozens of packages of varying sizes, boxes, and bags, all tightly wrapped in what appeared to be cellophane and then double and triple-sealed with tape.
After two days of searching, the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force Marine Unit and the Customs Department turned up 113 packages.
Fifty two packages on the first day floating around the vessel and 61 more on the second directly from the boat.
Inside those packages, of which police shared photos, was the massive quantity of marijuana.
“On Wednesday, August 30th, the Marine Branch escorted a wooden vessel from an area known as Northwest Point to the commercial dock Providenciales. As customary, the vessel was subsequently searched by the Customs Enforcement Unit. During the search, twenty-seven (27) kilograms of Cannabis was discovered hidden on board the vessel. No arrest has been made thus far, as there were no occupants on board when the abandoned vessel was discovered. The drugs were secured and handed over to the police. Investigations are continuing,” said Linda Malcolm, Collector of Customs.
The find confirms long held concerns that Haitian smuggling operations were also a way to funnel in illicit drugs and other contraband to the British overseas territory, which is overwhelmed by the country’s highest levels of gun crime.

Molo is partnering with the Turks and Caicos Islands Community College (TCICC) to actively promote hospitality as a career choice and support in developing training programs, career fairs, seminars, workshops, and events to raise awareness about hospitality careers. Molo has committed to provide employment and apprentice opportunities to TCICC students and provide mentoring and practical on property training to students.

This project will bring economic growth, embrace local talent, and enrich our economy.”

#TurksandCaicos, May 13, 2024 – Detectives of the Serious Crime Unit of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force have
charged a man who allegedly stole a vehicle.
The accused, DANVANTE BRISCO, 30, of Kew Town, Providenciales, was charged with:
- One Count: Robbery
- One Count: Taking Motor Vehicle Without Authority
- One Count: Using Offensive Weapon to cause fear
Mr. BRISCO appeared in court today (May 13 ) and was granted bail of $7500.00 with one surety.
The matter was adjourned to July 05 for a Sufficiency Hearing.
#TurksandCaicos, May 13, 2024 – A 20-year-old Dock Yard male appeared in court today (May 13th) charged with a series of firearm-related offences.
The accused, JAMES SIMON, was denied bail and remanded into custody pending a Sufficiency Hearing scheduled for July 05th, 2024.
Mr. SIMON faces the following charges:
- One Count: Robbery;
- One Count: Gang Membership
- One Count: Possession of a Firearm for the Benefit of a Gang
- One Count: Possession of Ammunition for the Benefit of a Gang.
The charges against Mr. Simon followed investigations by officers of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force into a robbery at the parking lot of a Casino where three males robbed a victim.
Additionally, Mr. Simon is charged with the following offences, having been arrested on May 02nd, 2024, along South Dock Road.
- One Count: Possession of a Firearm
- One Count: Possession of Ammunition
- One Count: Unlawful Entry
Officers also charged a teenage minor who was in the company of Mr. Simon on May 02nd with One Count of UNLAWFUL ENTRY.
The accused, seventeen and from Kew Town, Providenciales, pleaded guilty and will be sentenced on May 20th.
