#TurksandCaicos, September 29, 2023 – Both the Government and Opposition are pressing hard to reach and encourage the Turks and Caicos young people this National Youth Week.

The Government has put on a series of events across all islands including gospel concerts, job fairs and a first-ever National Youth Awards to celebrate extraordinary young people in the country.

Rachel Taylor, who is the Minister of Education and Youth has urged everyone to ‘honor, highlight, and uplift youth who have made bold efforts to become engaged in pursuits with issues that concern the youth of the islands.’

The Opposition, in line with the Government’s messages, also released a statement in support of Youth Week.

“It’s Youth Week in the Turks and Caicos, and this is a time to celebrate the vibrant spirit and boundless potential of our young generation. The importance of youth in shaping our islands’ future cannot be overstated. An investment in the youth is an investment in a brighter tomorrow!” said the PDM Opposition.

The county has suffered extreme brain drain in recent years with young people electing to study and live elsewhere. The Government is attempting to entice those young people through programs like its apprenticeship portal, to return home in order to seize opportunities and be a part of nation building.
