UPDATED: SEVERE WEATHER WATCH FOR GRAND BAHAMA

#Nassau, May 3, 2019 – Bahamas – THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY HAS ISSUED A SEVERE WEATHER WATCH FROM 8:50 AM TO 10:50 AM FRIDAY 3RD MAY 2019.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH IS NOW IN EFFECT FOR GRAND BAHAMA AND ITS ADJACENT WATERS.

AT 8:50 AM RADAR, SATELLITE IMAGERY AND LIGHTNING DETECTOR DEPICTED A LINE OF HEAVY SHOWERS AND STRONG THUNDERSTORMS ASSOCIATED WITH A TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE EXTENDING ACROSS FLORIDA AREA MOVING TOWARDS THE WATCH AREA.

SOME OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE STRONG TO SEVERE AT TIMES CAUSING STRONG GUSTY WINDS, DANGEROUS LIGHTNING, HEAVY DOWNPOURS, HAIL AND POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT OR TORNADIC ACTIVITY. LOCALIZED FLOODING IS EXPECTED IN HEAVY DOWNPOURS.

RESIDENTS AND BOATERS IN THE WATCH AREA SHOULD BE PREPARED TO TAKE QUICK ACTION SHOULD CONDITIONS WORSEN. RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER TREES OR IN WATER AS THESE CAN BECOME LIGHTNING CONDUCTORS.
