BAHAMAS SEVERE WEATHER WARNING FROM 300PM TO 500PM THURSDAY 9TH MAY 2019

#Nassau, May 9, 2019 – Bahamas – SEVERE WEATHER WARNING – THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FROM 3PM EDT UNTIL 5PM THURSDAY 09TH MAY 2019.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR BIMINI, GRAND BAHAMA, NORTH AND CENTRAL ANDROS, ABACO, ELEUTHERA AND THEIR ADJACENT WATERS.

AT 2:55PM LIGHTNING DETECTOR, RADAR AND SATELLITE IMAGERY CONTINUED TO DEPICT CLUSTERS OF HEAVY SHOWERS AND STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ASSOCIATED WITH TROUGHING MOVING TOWARDS AND ACROSS THE WARNING AREAS.

SOME OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE SEVERE AT TIMES CAUSING STRONG GUSTY WINDS, DANGEROUS LIGHTNING, HEAVY DOWNPOURS, HAIL AND POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT OR TORNADIC ACTIVITY.

BOATERS IN THE WARNING AREAS SHOULD SEEK SAFE HARBOUR AND RESIDENTS IN THE WARNING AREAS SHOULD STAY INDOORS AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS WHEN CONDITIONS WORSEN.

RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER TREES OR IN WATER AS THESE CAN BECOME LIGHTNING CONDUCTORS.
