Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands (Wednesday, April 24, 2019) – As of 3:39 p.m. today, Wednesday, April 24, service was fully restored to all customers in the Leeward area of Providenciales, who were affected by an earlier outage.
The interruption in electricity began at approximately 7:09 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23, and was the result of a failed connector in the underground system. Crews worked through the night and early morning troubleshooting. Identifying the exact location of the fault was a challenge because the area was covered by what appears to be recent roadwork.
Once the location of the fault was identified, civil works were carried out – breaking through concrete and asphalt – to access the buried cables and conduct the necessary repairs.
FortisTCI President and CEO Eddinton Powell said, “The restoration of service to our customers over the past 24 hours was the company’s main focus, and our crews accomplished this without any reported safety issues. I extend my appreciation to everyone involved for their remarkable display of determination, dedication, and teamwork.”
FortisTCI would like to thank customers for their patience and understanding during the difficult hours. Any customer who is still without electricity is asked to contact our customer service representatives at 649-946-4313 to report an outage. You may be experiencing an isolated issue.
