TCI: Commissioner James Smith Christmas Message

#Providenciales, December 18, 2018 – Turks and Caicos – AS WE CELEBRATE THE FESTIVE SEASON, THE ROYAL TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS POLICE FORCE WOULD LIKE TO SINCERELY THANK CITIZENS FOR THEIR CONTRIBUTION TOWARDS MAINTAINING LAW AND ORDER THROUGHOUT THE TERRITORY.

I CANNOT OVEREMPHASIZE HOW IMPORTANT COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT IS IN THE FIGHT AGAINST CRIME, AND THE NEED FOR THE POLICE AND CITIZENS TO CREATE A STRONGER RELATIONSHIP. FIGHTING CRIME IS EVERYONE’S BUSINESS.

THROUGHOUT 2018, WE HAVE EXPERIENCED TREMENDOUS SUCCESS, A STEADY DECREASE IN CRIME OVERALL, THE IMPLEMENTATION OF MODERN TECHNOLOGIES THROUGH NEW EQUIPMENT AND TRAINING, THE INTRODUCTION OF THE CCTV TECHNOLOGY AND 911 UPGRADES, AND THE OPENING OF THE ETHEL INGHAM CENTRE THAT WILL ENHANCE THE SERVICE AND CARE GIVEN TO VICTIMS OF SEXUAL OFFENCES.

OUR SUCCESS THIS YEAR WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE WITHOUT THE CONTINUED SUPPORT FROM THE TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS GOVERNMENT AND OUR INTERNATIONAL PARTNERS, THE UK NCA SAFEGUARDING PROJECT AND UNICEF, THE MIAMI BEACH POLICE DEPARTMENT, AND LOCAL PARTNERS GALMO WILLIAMS, STAN HARTLING, CARL SIMMONS AND MARK DURLIAT AND OTHERS FROM THE TCI RESORT ECONOMIC COUNCIL.

I WOULD LIKE TO THANK THE HARDWORKING AND RESILIENT MEN AND WOMEN OF THE ROYAL TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS POLICE FORCE FOR THEIR CONTINUED DEDICATION TO DUTY. TO THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE DISPLAYED A COMMITMENT TO SERVE, YOUR COMMITMENT HAS BENEFITTED OUR COMMUNITIES; THIS WOULD NOT BE ACHIEVED WITHOUT YOUR PERSONAL DRIVE TO GETTING THE WORK DONE AND PROTECTING YOUR COMMUNITY.

AS WE HEAD TOWARDS 2019, I WOULD ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO ACTIVELY CONSIDER HOW THEY CAN MAKE CRIME PREVENTION A PRIORITY IN THE NEW YEAR.
