#GrandTurk, June 6, 2018 – Turks and Caicos – Minister of Tourism Hon. Ralph Higgs were among a number of top Executive Officials aboard the Carnival Horizon on May 31 to mark the ship’s inaugural stop to the Grand Turk Cruise port.
The delegation was met by Ms. Maria McKenzie Vice President, Global Ports and Caribbean Government Relations and Ship’s Captain, Luigi De Angelis. The 26th ship for Carnival Cruise Line, Carnival Horizon offers a number of unique and exciting features, including the first Dr. Seuss-themed Water Works aqua park, the line’s first teppanyaki dining venue, and IMAX theatre among other entertainment and activity options.
The flag ship with a crew of 1,450 carries a maximum number of passengers of nearly 5,000, it is one of Carnivals largest vessels. The future of the destination looks promising, it is anticipated that visitor arrivals to Grand Turk will surpass the 1 million mark once again; this was an important occasion for not only Grand Turk but the entire Turks and Caicos.
Minister Higgs commented “My Government is committed to tourism expansion throughout the country and the cruise center on Grand Turk, we look forward to the continued partnership with Carnival Cruise line and welcome the introduction of the wider Turks and Caicos to their guest.”
The delegation participated in a tour of the ship and the customary exchange of commemorative plaques with the ship’s captain and Carnival Executive Officials.
