#Bahamas, October 2, 2017 – Nassau – THIS IS A PUBLIC FORECAST FOR THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT MONDAY 2ND OCTOBER 2017 ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY

GENERAL SITUATION: LOW LEVEL  TROUGING OVER THE NORTHWEST BAHAMAS COMBINED WITH A SURFACE TROUGH OVER THE SOUTHEAST BAHAMAS WILL CONTINUE TO GENERATE UNSETTLED WEATHER ACROSS THE ISLANDS THROUGH TONIGHT.

SPECIAL WARNINGS: BEACHGOERS SHOULD BE ALERT FOR THE RISK OF RIP CURRENTS AND ROUGH SURF ALONG NORTHERN AND EASTERN SHORELINES.

WEATHER:  PARTLY CLOUDY TO OCCASIONALLY OVERCAST, AND BREEZY WITH WIDELY SCATTERED SHOWERS AND ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS OFF AND ON THROUGH TONIGHT MAINLY ACROSS THE NORTHWEST AND SOUTHEASTERN ISLANDS. SOME SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS COULD BECOME HEAVY TO POSSIBLY SEVER AT TIMES AND MAY CAUSE FLOODING IN LOW LYING AREAS.

ADVISORY: SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT IN THE NORTHWEST BAHAMAS AND A SMALL CRAFT CAUTION CONTINUES FOR THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHEAST BAHAMAS.

WINDS: NORTHEAST TO EAST AT 15 TO 25 KNOTS BUT HIGHER IN GUSTS IN THE NORTHWEST BAHAMAS, 15 TO 20 KNOTS IN THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHEAST BAHAMAS

SEAS: 5 TO 8 FEET OVER THE OCEAN BUT HIGHER IN GUSTS IN THE NORTHWEST BAHAMAS AND 4 TO 6 FEET IN THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHEAST BAHAMAS.

OUTLOOK FOR TOMORROW: LOW LEVEL TROUGHING IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE ACROSS THE ISLANDS WITH CLOUDY TO OVERCAST SKIES AND WINDY WITH WIDELY SCATTERED SHOWERS AND ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS TUESDAY

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK: Disorganized showers and thunderstorms across portions of the Yucatan Peninsula, Central America, and the northwestern Caribbean Sea are associated with surface trough that is interacting with an upper-level low.   Some slow development of this system is possible by the end of the week or this weekend while it drifts northward into the southern Gulf of Mexico.   Tropical cyclone formation chance through 5 days…low…20 percent.
