DDME trains Police, synergises with Pastors

Providenciales, TCI, September 20, 2016 – The Department of Disaster Management and Emergencies continues to watch Tropical Storm Karl and that new, Tropical Depression which is moving WNW at 9 mph.  However, hurricane watching is not the only time the DDME swoops in to help,  and so a few proactive measures were undertaken recently by the Department.  Director, Dr. Virginia Clerveaux yesterday met with church leaders who she says now better understand their role and the structure in responding to people.

Dr. Clerveaux said:  “A draft MoU was reviewed in the meeting and DDME hopes that many of these churches will sign the MoU shortly to ensure availability of sufficient shelters in the event of an emergency that requires persons to evacuate.”

There was also partnership with the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police.  The new recruits were last week exposed to disaster management.  From Basic Search and Rescue, Map reading and intro to Disaster Management, the new recruits said, Dr. Clerveaux, are benefiting.  The director commended the Police Force for offering the course; it was the first time for such a partnership between the DDME and the TCI Police.
