Over one thousand male employees from over 30 departments at Beaches Resorts were honoured in a week long celebration of the first annual Men’s Week Celebration which ran from June 13-19.

The event kicked off with a special devotion of prayer and thanksgiving hosted by the ladies of the resort.  During the special devotion speakers touched on the importance of the male role in the home and in the communities which set the tone for the week.

“It was important to us that the men were honoured this year. We have over one thousand male employees that work extremely hard every day.” Said Hotel Manager, Jamie McAnally who was one of the speakers at the event, “During the devotions I felt the need to remind them of their importance and value not only to Beaches TCI but in the home and in the communities.”

There was also a special departmental lunch where the men sat with McAnally to discuss current issues affecting men in the community.

Bar attendant Ronald Dean said, “We were able to take a quick break from the work and talk about topics men love. It was pleasing to see the executives support and participation and it felt good to be honored for our role as men.”

The week festivities also included, a Men’s Health fair which featured several local health practitioners. The men were educated on Dental health from Dr. Jamika Harvey of Paradise Smiles, Nutrition with local Registered Dietitian LaKeisha Wilson, Chiropractic care with Dr. Lise Cloutier of Court Yard Chiropractic and General Men’s Health with Dr. Sam Slattery of Grace Bay Medical Center.

“We attended women’s week and that went very well but I must say the men came out in even larger numbers to get all areas of their health checked.”  LaKiesha Wilson, “It was very surprising as men tend to be the ones less concerned and more fearful about their Health. I think Beaches did an amazing job with the event and we look forward to coming back next year.”

Thursday was celebrated with the highly anticipated “Blue Shirt Day” where hundreds male talent proudly wore their Men’s Week T-Shirts which read, ‘Beaches Celebrates Men’s Week 2016, celebrating and appreciating our men’.

The guys gathered at the Beaches Main stage for group photo followed by a BBQ and Domino competition at the chit chat employee café.

HR Coordinator of beaches TCI Tavardo Reasias commented on the event, “It was a great feeling. I remember during women’s week thinking to myself men should have a week too, and we did. What I love about beaches is they go above and beyond to make staff feel appreciated and this week was another example. Men’s week was great.”

#TurksandCaicos, September 24, 2023 – Bidders are showing interest in the Providenciales Airport Redevelopment Project as the deadline for pre-qualification has been extended at the request of potential investors, according to the Turks and Caicos Islands Airports Authority (TCIAA).

In a September 19th update, the TCIAA revealed that to allow adequate time for the submission of applications, the closing date has been extended from Wednesday, 27th of September 2023 to Wednesday, the 18th of October 2023.

The Government is hoping to find an investor willing to front the $360 million cost to redevelop the airport within five years and subsequently manage it and its revenue.

The investment to expand the terminal has also been estimated at $400 million.

No comment has yet been shared by TCIG on the level of interest in the project since it opened in August, but the Government had begun to receive unsolicited drafts from multiple investors before they had even decided on the structure of the redevelopment which is to be a Public Private Partnership.

The redevelopment is a necessary step in the Turks and Caicos’ tourism evolution according to consultants as the country prepares for a sustained increase in travelers.

The Government has set an ambitious timeline for the project with contracts to be signed by early 2024.

#TurksandCaicos, September 24, 2023 – The six National Town Hall meetings set for Providenciales this month have been postponed until further notice.

Announced on August 30th, the meetings came as the Government was put on blast for not communicating effectively enough with residents.

A suite of similar meetings were held in the country last year and residents turned out to share their concerns, ideas and to hear what TCIG was planning to do for them.

The postponed meetings were supposed to be as follows:

Five Cays — 20th September;

Wheeland — 21st September;

Cheshire Hall —22nd  September;

The Bight — 25th September;

Blue Hills —  26th September And ;

Leeward And Long Bay —27th September

Providenciales residents, especially in Five Cays, have been clamoring for a meeting with the elected representatives to talk about several matters, first and foremost the criminal activity that disproportionately affects the densely populated island.

There was no indication whether other government agencies including the police, would be on hand to answer questions during the meetings.

The meetings for the rest of the country listed for October will run as normal.
