Mike Clerveaux Appointed Deputy Director Of Housing and Community Renewal Department

#TurksandCaicos, October 29, 2022 – The Office of the Deputy Governor of the Turks and Caicos Islands is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Mike Clerveaux to the post of Deputy Director of the Housing and Community Renewal Department within the Ministry of Physical Planning and Infrastructure Development.

Mr. Clerveaux joined the public service in 1997 with the then Civil Aviation Department as an Airport Security Officer. Later that year Mr. Clerveaux received a Turks and Caicos Islands Government Scholarship to pursue a Diploma in Education from the Mico Teachers’ College, in Kingston Jamaica where he studied Industrial Arts from 1997-2000. Upon completing his studies, he was placed at the Clement Howell High School where he taught Woodwork and Technical Drawing for five years, molding young minds and developing critical skill sets.

Mr. Clerveaux holds a Masters’ of Science in the Built Environment (Specialization in Geomatics) (2010-2013) and a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Urban and Regional Planning (2005-2009) both from the University of Technology (UTECH), Jamaica. Upon returning to the Turks and Caicos Islands, Mr Clerveaux dedicated a span of seven (7) years with the Department of Planning (2009-2016) as a Land Use Planner with responsibility for reviewing planning applications while promoting integrated development planning through spatial interpretation of the macro-economic and sectoral policies ensuring their consistency with the principles of sustainable development.

In 2016, Mr. Clerveaux, joined the Department of Disaster Management and Emergencies (DDME) as the Hazard Mitigation Officer (2016-2019). Three years later he was appointed to the post of Hazard Mitigation and GIS Manager (2019-2022). As the Hazard Mitigation and GIS Manager, Mr. Clerveaux was responsible for the administration of the Department’s Hazard Mitigation and Planning Programme. During his tenure at DDME, Mr. Clerveaux had acted in the capacity of both the Director and Deputy Director a position he held until his new appointment.

Commenting on his appointment Mr. Clerveaux stated:  “Success is the result of perfection, hard work, learning from failure, loyalty, and persistence.

I am confident that my professional and academic journey has equipped me with the requisite knowledge and skill sets to continue to make a contribution not just to the Department of Housing and but to the country on a whole and I look forward to serving in this new role.”

Minister of Physical Planning and Infrastructure Development the Honorable Akierra Missick in extending congratulations to Mr. Clearveaux stated:  “We are so pleased to be able to grow the Department of Housing and Community Renewal with Mr Mike Clerveaux.

Mr Clerveaux is no stranger to the Ministry of PPID and our overall remit of building a sustainable and resilient Turks and Caicos Islands.

The Development of Housing Solutions throughout the Island is no easy task, and the bolstering the staff compliment of this Department will lend neatly to our bold vision of producing 1,000 housing solution units over the next 3 years.

With big vision comes big responsibility and we know that Mr Clerveaux will rise to the challenge and make this a reality.

Deputy Governor and Head of the Public Service Her Excellency Anya Williams joining in extending congratulations to Mr. Clerveaux stated:  “It gives me great pleasure to officially congratulate Mr. Mike Clearveaux on his appointment to the post of Deputy Director of the Housing and Community Renewal Department within the Ministry of Physical Planning and Infrastructure Development.

With over 20 years of experience, Mr. Clerveaux brings to this position a wealth of knowledge, skills, experience and strong public private sector partnerships, having worked in the diverse fields of Urban Planning, Environment and Disaster Management.

The recently established Housing and Community Renewal Department has a key role to play as we work towards improving our housing stock and infrastructure here in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Along with Director Dominique Durham, we are certain that Mr. Clerveaux will do an excellent job in leading the department and on delivering on the governments stated housing objectives going forward.

Turks and Caicos Islands Students Excel at Cycle 13 WizdomCRM Regional AI Game National Awards Ceremony

Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands – Wednesday, 22 July 2026:  The Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports and Culture proudly congratulates the students of the Turks and Caicos Islands on their outstanding performance at the Cycle 13 WizdomCRM Regional Virtual Sustainable Stock Market AI Game National Awards Ceremony.

The ceremony was held on Thursday, 16 July 2026, at the Blue Haven Resort, under the theme “Champions Today. AI Leaders Tomorrow.” It was hosted by the Ministry in collaboration with WizdomCRM.

Students across the Caribbean took part in the investment challenge, each beginning with a virtual portfolio of USD $25,000 and working to grow it through simulated investments on regional and international stock markets. Throughout the competition, students were guided by Mr. Rabbit, WizdomCRM’s AI Tutor, and supported by E-Classroom sessions, building financial literacy, critical thinking and investment skills.

The Turks and Caicos Islands emerged as the region’s top-performing territory, claiming the top six regional positions, securing 14 of the Caribbean’s Top 20 places, and placing four schools on the regional leaderboard. Leading the region was Marc Roubentz-Perceus of TCIPS Comprehensive High School, who grew his portfolio to USD $370,336.63. He was followed by Joshua Creese of Raymond Gardiner High School in second place, and Stendro Chalas of TCIPS Comprehensive High School in third. Raymond Gardiner High School was also recognised as the Top School for Cycle 13.

Hon. Rachel M. Taylor, Minister of Education, Youth, Sports and Culture, said: “I congratulate every student who took part in Cycle 13. You

have demonstrated the confidence to compete with the very best students regionally, and you have shown our country what is possible. This success is not luck; it is the result of an ecosystem built by students, teachers, parents, school leaders and partners who continue to invest in educational excellence. As we look ahead, the Ministry is in active discussions with WizdomCRM to expand access to its AI-powered learning tools, including Super AI, the AI Tutor, the Plagiarism Checker and the Grammar Checker, so that our young people are equipped with the future-ready skills they need to succeed.”

The Ministry extends sincere appreciation to the dedicated teachers who mentored the students, and to Rubis Turks and Caicos, whose sponsorship provided the cash prizes awarded to the top three regional champions. The Ministry also thanks WizdomCRM, participating schools, parents and stakeholders for their partnership in this achievement, which reflects the Ministry’s continued commitment to innovation, digital learning and youth development across the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Britain’s new Prime Minister launches his administration with tax relief aimed at easing pressure on household budgets as affordability becomes a defining issue for governments worldwide.

 LONDON, England — Andy Burnham has wasted little time signaling a new direction for the United Kingdom, making the cost of living the first priority of his administration with a plan to reduce household electricity bills through tax relief.

The newly elected Prime Minister announced that Value Added Tax (VAT) will be removed from domestic electricity bills beginning October 1, describing the measure as part of a broader effort to make everyday life more affordable for working families. The move fulfills a key campaign promise and marks an early shift in the government’s economic agenda.

Burnham inherits a nation still grappling with stubborn inflation, rising household expenses and years of political turnover. His opening policy signals an intention to focus on practical measures that deliver immediate financial relief while restoring confidence in government.

The announcement also resonates across the Caribbean, where affordability remains a pressing concern. In the Turks and Caicos Islands, the Government has just concluded its one-time cost-of-living assistance programme for qualifying residents. Pres Ali declares three days of national mourning following MV Barima tragedy July 21, 2026

His Excellency Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali has declared three days of national mourning following the tragic loss of lives in the M.V. Barima incident, as the nation continues to grieve alongside the families and communities affected.

The period of national mourning will be observed from Wednesday, July 22, through Friday, July 24, 2026, in honour of the victims of the tragedy. During this time, the National Flag will be flown at half-mast on all Government buildings and other appropriate locations across the country.

As part of the observances, Wednesday, July 22, has been designated a National Day of Prayer. A National Day of Prayer and Remembrance will be held at the Kingston Seawall in Georgetown, bringing together citizens in solidarity to honour the lives lost and offer support to grieving families.

The programme of remembrance will continue with a Night of Reflection and Prayer in Port Kaituma on Thursday, July 23, followed by another observance in Mabaruma on Friday, July 24.

The government is also encouraging religious organisations, civic groups and citizens throughout Guyana to organise candlelight vigils and moments of prayer during the three days as the nation collectively reflects on the tragedy and pays tribute to the victims. The declaration of national mourning underscores the government’s commitment to standing with the bereaved families and affected communities as Guyana mourns one of the country’s most heartbreaking maritime tragedies.
