#Jamaica, June 6, 2022 – The Jamaican consulates in New York and Miami are offering scholarships to Jamaican students to study in the United States.

Undergraduate students who want to pursue criminal justice, computer networks and cybersecurity full-time will have their tuition and housing covered.

According to Jamaica’s Consul General to New York, Alsion Roach Wilson, at least 30 scholarships are now available for students to study at the Monroe College in New York. Likewise, Jamaica’s Consul General to Miami, Oliver Mair, said there are ongoing discussions to provide about 30 scholarships to students who would like to study at the University of Tennessee.

“They are not full scholarships. They cover approximately US$20,000, so we’re looking at some fundraisers to assist students in getting additional support for accommodation,” he said.

Mair added that the consulate will continue to work closely with the University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona and the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts in Kingston. At UWI, Mona, two scholarships are available for students pursuing Reggae Studies and at the Edna Manley College, about five scholarships are available for students pursuing Arts programmes for three years. There have also been discussions regarding student exchanges and international student scholarships.

To apply for these scholarships, students will have to visit the Ministry of Education and Youth website. Applications are now open and will be until June 30, 2022.

The Ministry has said it will review and respond to submitted applications by mid-July.
