Turks and Caicos – On October 17, 2024, the TCI Amateur Athletic Association kicked off the new 2024-2025 athletic season with an exhilarating Road Race that drew a total of 74 enthusiastic athletes. This year’s event featured both a 5K and a 3K race, providing participants of all skill levels the opportunity to showcase their speed and endurance.
The race commenced in the vicinity of Venetian Road, a picturesque route that set the stage for an exciting day of competition. As the
athletes took off, the atmosphere was electric, with supporters lining the streets to cheer on their favourite runners. The course wound through scenic landscapes before culminating at the iconic TCI National Stadium, where the finish line awaited.
Participants ranged from seasoned runners to newcomers, all eager to test their limits and enjoy the camaraderie of fellow athletes. The event not only highlighted the dedication of the athletes but also emphasized the community spirit that the TCI Amateur Athletic Association fosters through its events.
A total of 76 participants, boys and girls from both primary and high schools competed in the run and all of them finished their race. TCAAA is happy towards the turn out of this event and hope that next year will see an increase in the number of athletes and schools participation.
The Road Race marks a significant start to the athletic season, and the turnout was a testament to the growing interest in competitive running within the community. As the athletes crossed the finish line, they were greeted with cheers, and a sense of accomplishment that comes with participating in such a spirited event.
Thelma Lightbourne Primary Coach, Mr. Hardware commented on how well his athletes done in the Road Race event. They capture 1st and 2nd place in the Under 13 category. He further stated the progress of one of the athletes was outstanding for him as she has only been training for a few weeks.

Love Joseph one of the participants who placed first in the Senior Boys (under 19) had this to say about the event. “Today was the first race of the season, and I set a new PB of 20:19 in the 5k. It was a great way to start the season, showing me that my consistency has paid off.”
Kenesha Thompson, coach of the Oseta Jolly Primary School, had this to say, “My team won the under 11 category .We also won 1st , 2nd and 3rd place for the boys and our girl came 3rd . She was very happy with the performance of your team.
TCAAA President Edith Skippings commented that she was delighted with the opening of the season and very pleased with the student athletes and the schools that are gearing up for the upcoming events. “As the Road Race was the first event of the season, it was very successful. I am satisfied with the performance of the number of school taking part and the athletes who were able to run the complete route with great success. I along with my team are looking forward for their continuous support in the other upcoming track and field events this season.
As the season unfolds, the TCI Amateur Athletic Association looks forward to hosting more events that encourage health, fitness, and community involvement. The success of the Road Race sets a positive tone for the upcoming athletic calendar, promising more thrilling competitions and opportunities for athletes to shine.
