Haiti plans for transitional government council progressing says Bahamas OPM

Haiti is one step closer to political stability as the plans to implement a transitional presidential council are moving forward after Haitian officials submitted to Caricom, names of nominees for the council. This was announced by Caricom on Thursday March 14th, just days after Ariel Henry resigned.

The submission of the names was mentioned by Keishla Adderley, Acting Secretary General of the Office of the Prime Minister of The Bahamas. She was speaking in the weekly press briefing on March 14th.

“As of yesterday six nominees were put forth to be a part of that council,” she said, adding that there was a member, seemingly one of of the Haitian stakeholders, who was yet to sublimity a name, but is expected to do so soon”

The transitional presidential council was first mentioned on Monday March 11th, 2024, at an important meeting between Caricom leaders on Haiti, held in Kingston, Jamaica.

Commenting on the submission of the names, Albert Ramdin, Foreign Minister of Suriname, is reported expressing to the Associated Press that the fate of Haiti is now in the hands of Haitians, given that they wanted a Haitian-led solution.

After the council is created, an interim prime minister will be put in power of Haiti, through the council, given its functions as pointed out by Irfaan Ali, Caricom Chair, speaking at the meeting in Jamaica.

#Palestine#Guyana, April 24, 2024 – A cheque of over GY$110 million which is USD$500 thousand, was presented to President Irfaan Ali, at a handover ceremony on April 23, in support of Palestine for Humanitarian efforts, according to reports.

The money, raised by Muslims and non Muslims, comes after an appeal by the National Ramadan Village during the month of Ramadan.

It will be sent to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine refugees (UNRWA) to help the victims of the ongoing war.

Royal Caribbean Cancels Haiti Trips

#Haiti#RoyalCaribbean, April 26, 2024- Royal Caribbean has decided to cancel all of its trips to Labadee, a popular destination in Haiti due to the worsening crisis, putting further strain on the country’s tourism sector. Cancellations were initially set to last until mid March but now they have been extended through the summer into September, according to a post by Royal Caribbean. A spokesperson for the organization is reported saying the Global Security and Intel team is monitoring the situation in Haiti, further expressing that the cancellations come as the safety and security of its guests are top priority.
