#TurksandCaicos, November 10, 2023 – “Don’t huff, Don’t puff, Don’t do that stuff!” that’s the enthusiastic message from Rodney Adams,

Deputy Police Commissioner, and the students of Thelma Lightbourne Primary School at a recent Drug Awareness Event.

The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force partnered with staff at the Institution to deliver a message urging students and other young people to stay far away from controlled substances.

Adams stressed that drug abuse was a blight on society, and shared with the students an acronym for DRUGS that he urged them to remember. Students dutifully repealed the acronym:

D – Destruction and Death, R- Recklessness U- Unhealthy G- Gross Bodily Harm S- Sorrow.

It’s a particularly salient message for the Turks and Caicos’ Youth as police officers repeatedly report drug finds in young people across the country. Boys as young as 19 have been charged with possession of Cocaine, Marijuana, and other hard drugs, some have even been charged with the intent to supply to others, hinting at an active drug trade targeting young men.

With this in mind, he encouraged them to stay away from addictive substances and instead:

“I’d like to charge that you live a life that reflects these words, D- Dedication, R- Respect and Resilience, U- Unique and Unstoppable, G-Greatness, S- Special, Self Awareness,” he maintained.

The event was held on October 24th.
