#CaymanIslands, October 3, 2023 – A single firearm linked to at least five murders in Jamaica over the last four years has been seized in the Cayman Islands by police. This was revealed by Derek Byrne, Commissioner of the Cayman Islands’ Police, Loop says.

The Commissioner informed that the weapon is now part of a major investigation.

This development brings into the spotlight the relationship between the Cayman Islands and Jamaica regarding guns.

In fact, Byrne revealed that a lot of the firearms found in the Cayman Islands originated from Jamaica, further adding that  the majority of marijuana and other drugs transported to the Cayman Islands are also suspected to originate in Jamaica.

The Commissioner credited the connection of the seizure to the enhancements of ballistics capabilities which he says he oversaw during the last seven years and due to that, the territory, is now a regional hub for firearms forensics.
