October 16, 2023 – The world is now at a place where the existence of the Caribbean as a viable region is at serious risk due to climate change.

This was expressed by Dr. Terrence Drew, Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis as he spoke of St Kitts and Nevis becoming a sustainable island state amid the climate change effects, meanwhile expressing concern for the region as a whole.

To aid in getting the country to Sustainable Island State level, he urged the people to step in and start by putting into action certain practices such as, producing less waste, conserving more water and energy and being more innovative, that is finding their own local solutions to the issue of climate change which he maintained will not stop and instead will multiply and become more acute, as a result of the direction the world is heading in regarding climate change.

He emphasizes that the people must understand the danger of climate change to the region and that it is important to adapt and change with it in ways that will see to the survival of  his country and the wider region.

Drew was speaking in a interview on Freedom FM’s issues programme on October 13th, and he referred to what he called a Sustainable Island State Model, the way to St Kitts and Nevis becoming a Sustainable Island State.  He says the model provides the best opportunity for the country to survive the changes happening, as it addresses issues of climate change, issues of how they live as a people and issues experienced daily from health to education, to jobs, to economy, food, water and energy.

In all this, Drew expressed the level of commitment in St. Kitts and Nevis to transform the country into a Sustainable Island State.
