Bahamas Tourism Deputy Minister Speaks

#TheBahamas, October 13, 2023 – The future of The Bahamas’ Tourism sector is looking brighter, showing a strong rebound from the pandemic era with over 5 million visitors from January to August.

Tourist numbers for the archipelago stands at a massive 6.6 million visitors, with 5.2 million by cruise. This figure sits just under that of 2019, the country’s banner year, which welcomed 7.2 million, says Latia Duncombe, Director General for The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism.

With this performance, The Bahamas, she says, is on the road to reaching the 8 million visitors the country’s deputy Prime Minister predicted.

Duncombe further informed that much work is being done to see the continues success tourism.

“Strategically in the background we have boots on the ground, the team are really working, firing all cylinders to make it successful,” she says. 

She also highlighted various things happening in tourism such as  sailing, recently named the country’s national sport, adding that there is a lot of activity within that space for tourism.

Additionally, Duncombe spoke of the recent 15 city global mission tour through north America, a big success and she also said they have launched the first annual Bahamas “film awards” where celebrities such as Tyrese Gibson and former mayor Cacime Reid were nominated. 

The Director General was speaking at an interview at SOTIC.
