#TurksandCaicos, September 2, 2023 – In an ambitious move to reshape the sports landscape of the Turks and Caicos Islands, the TCI Sports Commission recently launched the Athlete Development Fund (ADF). This initiative underscores a profound commitment to nurturing local athletic talent, with goals that reach beyond the immediate horizon.

The ADF seeks to broaden participation in sports across the islands. Emphasis is placed on facilitating quality sports activities, especially targeting residents from underrepresented groups.

The overarching vision is to have island athletes receive systematic training and support, enabling them to make their mark at premier international competitions. Parallel to this, the fund aims to invest in cultivating sports leadership within the community, ensuring that the islands’ unique values, ethics, and interests resonate in every match.

The fund offers two main grant categories.

The first, “Long-Term Athlete Development,” will channel resources towards organizing sports training camps. This facilitates leagues and tournaments, providing education for coaches and officials, and supporting the rental or purchase of sports equipment and facilities. This grant primarily targets entities registered with the TCIG, especially those actively contributing to sports development.

The second grant category, “Podium Excellence,” pivots towards high-performance sports. Resources under this banner will be directed towards sports performance center services, comprehensive training initiatives, and aiding participation in significant competitions. The spotlight here is on athletes who’ve demonstrated commendable promise, especially those endorsed by the National Sports Governing Body.

If interested in the ADF initiative, sporting organizations should provide an application form, project plan, and budget.

Athletes under 18 must have a guardian apply on their behalf, including an application form, cost details, a cover letter, and a recommendation from their National Sport Governing Body.

Applications are now being accepted at the Athlete Development Fund’s office, situated within the Gustavus Lightbourne Sports Complex in Downtown Providenciales. Alternatively, electronic submissions are welcomed at info@tciathletedevelopmentfund.com.

Driving the mission forward, the Athlete Development Fund Committee will hold the reins on deciding funding allocations. Their expertise and vision are expected to craft investment strategies that amplify the sports culture and aspirations of the Turks and Caicos Islands.
