#TurksandCaicos, August 11, 2023 – The Turks and Caicos Islands Community College (TCICC) is proud to announce that it has achieved approval as a National Centre for Construction Education & Research (NCCER) Institution. This significant milestone marks a moment of triumph for TCICC’s Technical Vocational, Education, and Training Programme, cementing its commitment to delivering top-tier construction training and certification and empowering the workforce with industry-leading skills.

With the NCCER’s seal of approval, TCICC is poised to offer a selection of NCCER courses in the short term designed to prepare individuals for entry-level positions in the construction field. The main NCCER courses in the short term are:

Carpentry: Providing learners with a solid foundation in general carpentry skills, this curriculum advances to cover more complex topics such as framing, finish carpentry, concrete, and form carpentry.

Looking forward, TCICC aims to introduce additional NCCER courses in the medium to long term, further enriching the technical education offerings. These forthcoming courses include HVACR, Plumbing, Masonry, Drywall Installation and Finishing, Construction Craft Labourer, Painting, Project Management, Project Supervision, and Solar Photovoltaic Installer.

The Minister of Education, Hon. Rachel Taylor commented, “ It is critical for us as a country, to ensure that we bridge the skills gaps through improved certified programs offered at our Turks and Caicos Islands Communities College. Our Government is investing heavily in our TCICC, as we aim to make it the college of first choice for our people.  NCCER is recognized by the construction industry as the training, assessment, certification and career development standard for the construction and maintenance craft professional. This initiative will provide a greater pathway for our Caribbean Vocational Qualifications (CVQ) and  Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET) students to upskill and retool themselves as they prepare confidently and efficiently for the workforce.”
