#TurksandCaicos, July 17, 2023 – An increasing number of Turks and Caicos restaurants are being shut down for health and safety violations with the latest being, ‘D’ Truck Stop Kitchen, a food trailer on South Dock Road.

The food service establishment is situated on a dusty spot of land next to the road where vehicles and large trucks pass by on a daily basis kicking up clouds of dust and debris. The white and red trailer has windows and doors cut into it, which are completely open to the elements with no glass or mesh to block the grime from spiraling into the building, the food preparation stations or the food itself.

Magnetic media was on-site early Wednesday July 12 when officers from the Environmental Health Department pulled into the makeshift parking lot and began to speak to an employee.

Our news team can confirm that the department had concerns regarding the lack of proper separation between the food prep areas and dusty exterior.

The employee was heard explaining her intent to outfit the place with glass panels to make the area more hygienic. The response from an officer on site was:

“Until you fix everything— you have to close.”

The order comes as the country continues on the road to recovery from COVID-19 and amidst a crackdown on crime generally.  The Operation Pursuit effort has resulted in other business closures due to infractions which threatened public health and public order.
