National ID Card to be hallmark of TCI E-Government, coming by 2025

#TurksandCaicos, November 29, 2022 – The new National Identification Cards promised for the Turks and Caicos and touted by the government as a cornerstone of e-government will be rolled out by 2025 at the latest, as e-government slowly moves toward implementation.
E Jay Saunders, Deputy Premier and Finance Minister made the announcement in a town hall meeting on November 21st.
“That project has gone out to tender already for the design of the national ID so we will be rolling out an ID during this term to replace a number of the ones that you have in your wallet already.”
During the meeting held at the Gus Lightbourne Gym, he confirmed that a team from the UK was in country, supporting the progression toward a more digital government system.
“The UK Consulting team they are on island right now and they are starting to gather the information on preparing the strategic plan, and that strategic plan will include all of the systems that the departments will need. As said before, that process is being managed by the Office of the Premier.”
The Deputy Premier was responding to a question which asked of him an update to the multi-million dollar plan for
E-Government implementation. The finance minister indicated that this new identification would replace the NIB, NHIP and status cards among others. He explained why it was so important.
“As we know, those cards are recognized internationally and they’re easy to be forged. We’re gonna be rolling out a national ID that will exist in a physical and digital form.”
The government is betting big on the new IDs as a major game changer when it comes to finding irregular migrants and accelerating public services.
“That national ID will be with everyone who is allowed to be a resident in the Turks and Caicos. If you were born in the Turks and Caicos you will get one— if you come here on a work permit you’ll get one so everyone who’s allowed to be in the Turks and Caicos will get one.”
He maintained that the intent is to connect all government services for a fully integrated, comprehensive, secure and seamless system.
Infrastructurally, government is also committed to improvements to support e-Government.
“The other project is the fibre optic cable,” he explained pointing to inconsistencies in connectivity, Saunders added, “the government is going to be expanding that fibre optic from Provo through the family islands; connecting North Caicos, Middle Caicos, South Caicos and on the way to Grand Turk.
The budget for the consultation of that project is already approved, said Saunders.
“A consultant will now come down to design the business case and design that project.
Tenders for the design of the National ID is already dispatched and closes on January 11, 2023.

Following a police shooting incident on May 14th, the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force (RTCIPF) is now able to name the deceased male subject, with the permission of the family.
The Serious Crime Unit contacted the relatives of the deceased, and formal identification has taken place, with the subject being identified as 14-year-old Antorens Dorcely, also known locally as ‘Toto’. 
During this challenging time, the RTCIPF also expressed its deepest condolences to the deceased’s family, and the force will continue to offer support through our Family Liaison Officer.
In light of this incident, the RTCIPF is urging the public to show respect and sensitivity towards the grieving family by refraining from sharing any footage of the deceased on social media.
Sharing such material can cause additional distress and harm. We emphasize the importance of empathy and respect for the family’s privacy as they navigate their grief. The death of any young person is a loss to the TCI.
The RTCIPF is committed and dedicated to conducting a thorough investigation and ensuring that all aspects of the incident are carefully examined and the findings are communicated transparently to the public.
A request has been made to an external police force to conduct a review of the incident. This is a routine procedure and intended to ensure an independent and objective review of the facts. The community’s cooperation and respect during this time are essential. The RTCIPF assures the public that we remain dedicated to upholding justice and accountability.
Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands – May 14th, 2024 – The Turks and Caicos Islands Government and Molo Hotel Group reached a pivotal juncture on Monday, May 13th, 2024, with the ceremonial signing of a development agreement at the Premier’s Office on Providenciales. Molo is partnering with the Turks and Caicos Islands Community College (TCICC) to actively promote hospitality as a career choice and support in developing training programs, career fairs, seminars, workshops, and events to raise awareness about hospitality careers. Molo has committed to provide employment and apprentice opportunities to TCICC students and provide mentoring and practical on property training to students.
The signing event was graced by Hon. Charles Washington Missick, Premier of the Turks and Caicos Islands, Hon. Jamell Robinson, Deputy Premier, Hon. #TurksandCaicos, May 13, 2024 – Detectives of the Serious Crime Unit of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force have
charged a man who allegedly stole a vehicle.
The accused, DANVANTE BRISCO, 30, of Kew Town, Providenciales, was charged with:
- One Count: Robbery
- One Count: Taking Motor Vehicle Without Authority
- One Count: Using Offensive Weapon to cause fear
Mr. BRISCO appeared in court today (May 13 ) and was granted bail of $7500.00 with one surety.
The matter was adjourned to July 05 for a Sufficiency Hearing.
