#Ukraine, February 17, 2022 – Tensions between the United States and Russia over a possible invasion of Ukraine, are at a dangerous high.

Citizens of other countries including the US, UK, Germany, and Jamaica have been on a steady stream out of the country after being summoned back home by their governments.

Russia has amassed over 100,000 troops on the border it shares with Ukraine but says it has no plans to attack the country and has called reports to the contrary ‘dangerous lies.’

The center of the problem lies with Ukraine’s close relationship with NATO which is the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, an intergovernmental military alliance between 27 European countries, 2 North American countries, and 1 Eurasian country.

Russia accuses NATO of pumping weapons into Ukraine and wanting to recapture Crimea which is a block of land currently under Russian control.

Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said, “For us it’s absolutely mandatory to ensure Ukraine never, ever becomes a member of NATO.”

There are report of Russian soldiers returning to base; media reports and headlines expressing that Russia now says it is willing to “talk more.”

For the western world, if this insurgence plays out in the worst way – which would be a military clash between Russia and Ukraine – it would have ripple effects which would make economic recovery excruciating.
