United in Faith Worldwide! Jehovah’s Witnesses Hold Global Virtual Event in 240 Lands, 500+ Languages

Published

on

July 9, 2021 – Breaking a century-old tradition in the name of health and safety, the largest convention organization in the world has moved its annual in-person event to a virtual format for the second time in as many years, canceling nearly 6,000 conventions in 240 lands.

Conventions are milestones in the lives of Jehovah’s Witnesses in the Turks & Caicos Islands for decades. Many
cheerfully travelled to the USA every summer to attend. Since 2017, summer conventions have been hosted at local
Kingdom Halls throughout the Islands. In 2019, at the last in-person convention, over 400 Witnesses and invited guests
gathered to listen to the theme ‘Love Never Fails’.

In 2020, the pandemic unexpectedly interrupted that tradition moving the international religious organization to cancel
in-person conventions throughout the world and launch a global virtual event. This was a first for Jehovah’s Witnesses,
who have held public conventions in stadiums, arenas, convention centers, and theaters around the world since 1897.

“Powerful by Faith!” is the theme of the 2021 global event, which will be delivered in more than 500 languages to
households throughout the globe over six weekends during July and August 2021, uniting some 15-20 million people in 240 countries. Since the convention is typically held from Friday through Sunday, the program will be available in six
installments corresponding to morning and afternoon sessions. “Friday” morning’s session will be available for
streaming or download beginning June 28, 2021.

“I have never missed one, it never crossed my mind”, says Mrs. Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Malcolm, long-time Grand Turk
resident. “I looked forward to attending conventions. Even though we are now watching it in our own home, the
convention sessions allow me to absorb the information in comfort. Spiritual food is the most important thing we need
during this time.”

The continued risk of bringing thousands of people together in cities around the world prompted the organization to
opt for a virtual platform for the second consecutive year. However, the move has not curbed the enthusiasm for the
annual event. Congregations around the world are inviting the public to join them in this historic occasion.

“Faith has helped our global brotherhood to continue to thrive even during a pandemic,” said Robert Hendriks, Branch
spokesman for Jehovah’s Witnesses. “Our faith will continue to unite us in worship—even virtually—as millions gather
in private homes around the world to enjoy a powerful and inspiring spiritual program.”

All are invited to attend the event by going to www.jw.org on the web or JW Broadcasting on the free JW Library app
available for iOS or Android, or on streaming platforms like ROKU TV, Apple TV, and others. The program is free and
accessible to all. The schedule for download and global streaming is listed below.

Ministry of Education Representatives with Rubis and Top 3 Performers

Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands – Wednesday, 22 July 2026:  The Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports and Culture proudly congratulates the students of the Turks and Caicos Islands on their outstanding performance at the Cycle 13 WizdomCRM Regional Virtual Sustainable Stock Market AI Game National Awards Ceremony.

The ceremony was held on Thursday, 16 July 2026, at the Blue Haven Resort, under the theme “Champions Today. AI Leaders Tomorrow.” It was hosted by the Ministry in collaboration with WizdomCRM.

Students across the Caribbean took part in the investment challenge, each beginning with a virtual portfolio of USD $25,000 and working to grow it through simulated investments on regional and international stock markets. Throughout the competition, students were guided by Mr. Rabbit, WizdomCRM’s AI Tutor, and supported by E-Classroom sessions, building financial literacy, critical thinking and investment skills.

The Turks and Caicos Islands emerged as the region’s top-performing territory, claiming the top six regional positions, securing 14 of the Caribbean’s Top 20 places, and placing four schools on the regional leaderboard. Leading the region was Marc Roubentz-Perceus of TCIPS Comprehensive High School, who grew his portfolio to USD $370,336.63. He was followed by Joshua Creese of Raymond Gardiner High School in second place, and Stendro Chalas of TCIPS Comprehensive High School in third. Raymond Gardiner High School was also recognised as the Top School for Cycle 13.

Hon. Rachel M. Taylor, Minister of Education, Youth, Sports and Culture, said: “I congratulate every student who took part in Cycle 13. You

have demonstrated the confidence to compete with the very best students regionally, and you have shown our country what is possible. This success is not luck; it is the result of an ecosystem built by students, teachers, parents, school leaders and partners who continue to invest in educational excellence. As we look ahead, the Ministry is in active discussions with WizdomCRM to expand access to its AI-powered learning tools, including Super AI, the AI Tutor, the Plagiarism Checker and the Grammar Checker, so that our young people are equipped with the future-ready skills they need to succeed.”

The Ministry extends sincere appreciation to the dedicated teachers who mentored the students, and to Rubis Turks and Caicos, whose sponsorship provided the cash prizes awarded to the top three regional champions. The Ministry also thanks WizdomCRM, participating schools, parents and stakeholders for their partnership in this achievement, which reflects the Ministry’s continued commitment to innovation, digital learning and youth development across the Turks and Caicos Islands.

ANDY BURNHAM, NEW UK PM’S FIRST ORDER: LOWER THE COST OF LIVING

Published

Britain’s new Prime Minister launches his administration with tax relief aimed at easing pressure on household budgets as affordability becomes a defining issue for governments worldwide.

By Deandrea Hamilton | Magnetic Media

LONDON, England — Andy Burnham has wasted little time signaling a new direction for the United Kingdom, making the cost of living the first priority of his administration with a plan to reduce household electricity bills through tax relief.

The newly elected Prime Minister announced that Value Added Tax (VAT) will be removed from domestic electricity bills beginning October 1, describing the measure as part of a broader effort to make everyday life more affordable for working families. The move fulfills a key campaign promise and marks an early shift in the government’s economic agenda.

Burnham inherits a nation still grappling with stubborn inflation, rising household expenses and years of political turnover. His opening policy signals an intention to focus on practical measures that deliver immediate financial relief while restoring confidence in government.

The announcement also resonates across the Caribbean, where affordability remains a pressing concern. In the Turks and Caicos Islands, the Government has just concluded its one-time cost-of-living assistance programme for qualifying residents. While the approaches differ, both reflect a growing recognition that easing financial pressure on households has become one of the defining challenges facing governments today.

His Excellency Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali has declared three days of national mourning following the tragic loss of lives in the M.V. Barima incident, as the nation continues to grieve alongside the families and communities affected.

The period of national mourning will be observed from Wednesday, July 22, through Friday, July 24, 2026, in honour of the victims of the tragedy. During this time, the National Flag will be flown at half-mast on all Government buildings and other appropriate locations across the country.

As part of the observances, Wednesday, July 22, has been designated a National Day of Prayer. A National Day of Prayer and Remembrance will be held at the Kingston Seawall in Georgetown, bringing together citizens in solidarity to honour the lives lost and offer support to grieving families.

The programme of remembrance will continue with a Night of Reflection and Prayer in Port Kaituma on Thursday, July 23, followed by another observance in Mabaruma on Friday, July 24.

The government is also encouraging religious organisations, civic groups and citizens throughout Guyana to organise candlelight vigils and moments of prayer during the three days as the nation collectively reflects on the tragedy and pays tribute to the victims. The declaration of national mourning underscores the government’s commitment to standing with the bereaved families and affected communities as Guyana mourns one of the country’s most heartbreaking maritime tragedies.
