#Providenciales, August 26, 2019 – Turks and Caicos – Just after 3:00 a.m., on Sunday, August 25th, 2019 Officers during a routine stop at the Paparazzi Night Club, observed what appeared to be two men having a verbal altercation. In an effort to stop the verbal altercation, a Sergeant was assaulted by a 24-year-old man.
The 24-year-old was arrested with the assistance of a second Officer and taken into custody.
The man who is still in custody is expected to be charged for the Offences of Assault on a Police Officer and Resisting Arrest.
The officer sustained minor injuries and visited the Hospital for an assessment and released.
Speaking on the incident, Commissioner of Police Mr. Trevor Botting said, “The assault on any Police Officer is unacceptable and abhorrent. Being assaulted is not part of the job, Police officers have every right to go to work and come back to their families at the end of their shift unharmed. Your Police Officers are part of your community. They are here to protect you and deserve your respect and care. I hope all sections of the Community and Government join me in condemning this cowardly and despicable assault on our colleague and your Police Officer. I have spoken to the officer concerned who is recovering at home from his injuries. He will be back serving the community he loves as soon as he is able. Knowing him as I do, he will not be deterred by the small minority. The community is lucky to have him and his colleagues working to keep you safe”.
