TCI: Amanyara takes its world-class service off property; Clement Howell students win and there was a surprise

Published

#Providenciales, May 17, 2019 – Turks and Caicos – The resort was not completely out of its comfort zone, after all, the luxury property in Northwest Point, Providenciales is award winning for its service… and on Wednesday, Amanyara Resort undoubtedly served the students of Clement Howell High school well.

A fabulous renovation was unveiled, leaving school officials, students, parents and Ministry of Education Officials blown away by the attention to detail and abundant generosity of the Amanyara Resort.  The thoughtfulness of the resort and its manager were given iconic status at the school.

“For a long time the lab was handicapped… we cannot thank Amanyara, led by Mr. Garrett Donovan more for this initiative and wonderful donations.  For that reason, we have named the lab, the Garrett Donovan Electricity Laboratory,” said Mrs. Kadean Cunningham, CHHS Principal.

Outdated equipment is now replaced with the finest tools in a modern, safe and comfortable setting which expanded upon seating, provided desks and created the ideal storage area for the Electricity Lab.

“With this donation, our teachers can afford our students with hands on, practicals so that the students can see first hand some of the activities carried out in Electricity.  Clement Howell High is the only school that offers Electrical and Electronic Technology as a CSEC course in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

On hand for the handover on Wednesday morning were the Hon. Karen Malcolm, the Minister of Education; Mr. Wesley Clerveaux, Permanent Sectary of Education and Mr. Edgar Howell, Director of Education.

Principal Cunningham said, “Amanyara decided two years ago to partner with Clement Howell on upgrading and strengthening its Industrial Arts Workshop.   In 2017, spearheaded by then General Manager, Marco Franck, they refurbished and outfitted the Industrial Arts Workshop with state of the art and 21st century tools, machines, equipment and technological devices.”

Mrs. Cunningham said the work two years ago by Amanyara helped Clement Howell High to be deemed compliant; having the requisite standard for CXC Caribbean Vocational Qualification or CVQ.

At that time, the resort decided they would take on a biennial project at the school and the proceeds which funded the ‘reno’ of the Electricity Lab at Clement Howell High, came from Amanyara guests’ donations during the Christmas holidays.

“The school provided a wish-list to fully outfit and refurbish the lab.  Today, this has come to fruition,” said the overjoyed principal on Wednesday at the handover.

Add to the momentous occasion, there was an announcement that CHHS students are to gain on the job experience at the Amanyara Resort thanks to an internship which will run for six weeks, this Summer.

“Amanyara is collaborating with us in the areas of maintenance, engineering, housekeeping, front office and food and beverage.”

The Amanyara Resort is calling the initiative of the new Electricity Laboratory ‘a donation as a commitment to our community.’
