TCI: Lormeka Williams Excels to Head Up DECR Department

#Providenciales, March 4, 2019 – Turks and Caicos – The Turks and Caicos Islands Civil Service is pleased to congratulate Mrs. Lormeka Morley-Williams on her successful appointment to the post of Director of the Department of Environment and Coastal Resources within the Ministry of Tourism, Environment and Heritage.

Following the completion of her Masters of Science degree in Conservation Biology at the Durrell Institute of Conservation and Ecology, University of Kent in late 2017, the former Red Cross Director and Chevening Scholar, joined the Turks and Caicos Islands Government in April 2018 taking up the post of Deputy Director of the DECR.

Within less than a year Mrs. Williams has now been appointed to head up the DECR Department and will be responsible for developing strategic plans for environmental and fisheries affairs and for enforcing all pertinent environmental and fisheries laws in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Deputy Governor and Head of the Public Service Anya Williams in commenting on Mrs. Morley-Williams appointment said; “We extend our congratulations to Mrs. Morley-Williams on her successful appointment to the post of Director of the DECR.  Lormeka has certainly made a name for herself within the department and industry since taking up the post of Deputy Director and is worthy of this promotion, having demonstrated strong leadership and technical skills that competently qualify her for this role.  She has a passion for the environment and we know that she will do exceptionally well.”

Mrs. Williams, who has a strong appreciation of the nature and wildlife of the Turks and Caicos Islands said; “I am happy to be given this opportunity to serve my country in this new capacity.  I am looking forward to promoting the sustainable management and development of the natural environment of our biologically diverse Turks and Caicos Islands.”
