#Providenciales, October 31, 2018 – Turks and Caicos – 13 competitive swim athletes from SURFside Ocean Academy (SOA) and their coach, Jessica Soderquist, traveled to Nassau, Bahamas for the “Makos Fall Invitational Swim Meet” held October 26 and 27. This was the first off island meet for the Team this swim season and had the largest number of swimmers that the Team has traveled with since the Club’s formation as a competitive swim team in May 2014. The swimmers competed in 75 independent swim races in less than 12 hours, with 75% of the swims achieving personal best swim times. The SOA women finished 5th overall in points out of 13 competing swim teams.
The SOA Team for this meet was made up of swimmers Laura Shaw (19 years, CARIFTA 2015, 2017) Arleigha Hall (18 years, CARIFTA 2018), Alex Maclaren (16 years, 2 x CARIFTA 2017, 2018, UANA Cup, 2018), Jack Parlee (16, CARIFTA 2017, 2018, UANA Cup 2018), Georgia Greatrex (15, CARIFTA 2018, UANA Cup 2018), Lillian Taylor (13 years, CARIFTA 2017, 2018, UANA Cup 2018), Sophie Taylor (11 years), Sean Ewing (12 years), Selin Kilic (12 years), Thais Burgess ( 12 years), Angelina Lindenhahn ( 11 years), Olivia Taylor (9 years) and Sylvie Magnier (8 years), as well as coach Jessica Soderquist (National Swim TCI coach CARIFTA 2018, UANA Cup 2018).
Currently, there are approximately 25 young swimmers training in SOA’s competitive swim program, with some athletes training even twice/day as SOA runs up to 10 practices/week including custom swim-specific dryland workouts.
The coach and manager of SOA Swim Club wish to extend their thanks to the Makos Swim Club, parents of the swimmers, and a massive applause to all of the swimmers who participated in this meet. There were 2 Clubs representing the Turks and Caicos at this swim meet, with TCI Aquatic Swim Club led by Lenin Hamilton also competing.
