Turks and Caicos Government Continues Active 2018/2019 Recruitment Drive

#Providenciales, September 20, 2018 – Turks and Caicos – As a part of its efforts to continue to attract talent to the Turks and Caicos Islands civil service and to ensure that all new and vacant posts are filled across government on a timely basis, the Office of the Deputy Governor is pleased to launch its 4th Recruitment Drive for 2018/2019.

Thus far, a total of 3 recruitment drives have been conducted since the beginning of the 2018/2019 financial year, which began on April 1, 2018; with earlier recruitment drives having been conducted on:  May 11th, July 9th and August 2nd, 2018; including some 98 positions.

The fourth recruitment drive which is now being conducted includes over 45 positions and ranges across all ministries, including key positions in the Ministries of Health, Education, Infrastructure and Border Control.

Commenting on the continued recruitment exercise and TCIG’s success in its recruitment processes, Deputy Governor Anya Williams said; “As we continue to seek to fill key positions across government and to attract new talent to the Turks and Caicos Islands civil service, we are pleased with the continued level of interest in TCIG jobs.  During the first 3 three recruitment exercises we attracted a total of 738 applications for some 98 positions.

“What we have seen over the course of the last few years since the introduction of the new grade structure and the restructuring of a number of departments across government, is a keen interest from persons in the private sector to join the Turks and Caicos civil service.

“From within the civil service itself, we have also seen an improved upgrade in the skills of our current staff through the launch of the Civil Service Professional Development Fund and other programs which provide much needed training programs and access to scholarships and grants for Associate, Bachelors and Master’s degree programs, thereby allowing our current staff to compete for and be promoted from within the organization.

“As a part of our recruitment strategy, we have sought to provide more access to government vacancies by: launching a vacancies web-page on our site at www.gov.tc and by posting links to current vacancies on the official TCIG Press Office Facebook page www.facebook.com/pressofficetcig; by positing advertisements in the local newspapers and also by having a job section on Radio Turks and Caicos called Job Market which is aired as a part of the Community Announcements at 7:30am and 3pm each day.  We will continue our public outreach programs as well by hosting another Job Readiness Fair to assist persons in preparing for and conducting themselves in an interview, which can assist them in gaining employment in both the public and private sector.

“Recruitment is an ongoing process, as staff are continuously moving up within and also at times out of the organization, which makes this a very active process.  I am grateful for the efforts of my staff within the Human Resource Management Directorate and also the various ministries and departments across government that work to ensure that new and existing vacant positions are filled on a timely basis and with the right people and skills to assist in moving the organization forward as we continue to seek to build a more effective and efficient public service.”

International Community must address conflict between Israel and Iran

With tensions between Israel and Iran at an all-time high, a United Nations affiliated group is urging for calm and dialogue as their violent actions can cause tragic devastation on innocent civilians.

According to Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL), an organisation that is dedicated to promoting peace through civilian-led initiatives, “it is a clear indication that the greatest victims of war are innocent civilians. 

How could those lost lives ever be brought back? What could compensate for the outcry of children and the anguish of the youth in devastated dwellings?,” the group noted in a media statement, adding that  the international community should  take “decisive measures” to address the conflict.

It is also advocating for the establishment of “comprehensive international laws” to safeguard peace for future generations. “HWPL remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering dialogue and reconciliation, offering hope for a peaceful resolution to the conflict between Israel and Iran,” the group said.

HWPL is a non-profit organisation, with a mission to promoting peace through education, and advocacy. It has a global network spanning over 170 countries. The organisation works to build bridges of understanding and cooperation, striving towards a world free from conflict and violence.

According to reports in various international media outlets, Iran and its militant partners on April 13 initiated a large-scale attack against Israel through launching several hundred ballistic missiles and drones. The international society expressed concerns over the possibility of war between the two states, since Tehran’s direct attack on Israel was unprecedented.

Experts have pointed out that the attack on Israel was Iran’s response to an airstrike on the Iranian embassy in Syria on April 1, which killed seven military advisers including three senior commanders.

RTCIPF Observes World Down Syndrome Day

On March 21st, 2024, the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force joined the international, regional and local communities in observing World Down Syndrome Day. 

Officers showed their support by wearing brightly coloured and mismatched socks to raise awareness. 

The head of the Safeguarding and Public Protection Unit, Assistant Superintendent of Police Grantley Williams, Training Manager Mrs Odessa Forbes and Media Relations Officer Denyse Renne visited the SNAP Centre and interacted with the students.

In a message to the TCI community, the RTCIPF noted that stereotypes perpetuate stigma and hinder inclusion, preventing individuals from reaching their full potential. 

Instead, the RTCIPF calls for individuals to foster an environment of acceptance and support where everyone is valued for who they are. 

By breaking down barriers and challenging misconceptions, we can create a more inclusive society where individuals with Down Syndrome are empowered to live fulfilling lives and contribute meaningfully to their communities and, by extension, the TCI. 

As law enforcement officers, we must protect and serve all members of society, regardless of their abilities. 

Let’s work together to ensure that individuals with Down Syndrome are treated with dignity and respect and that their rights are upheld.
