#Providenciales, June 28, 2018 – Turks and Caicos – Invest Turks and Caicos today launched another campaign with the goal of fueling entrepreneurial ambitions amongst small and medium businesses in the Turks and Caicos Islands. The campaign “Invest TCI: Powering MSME Growth across the TCI” seeks to bring more awareness to the Micro Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) programme which is managed by Invest Turks and Caicos with support from the Centre for Entrepreneurial Development (CED) and Ministry of Finance, Investment and Trade.
Since its inception in 2016, the MSME program has disbursed well over $200,000 in cash grants, technical assistance, and duty concessions to numerous small businesses in various priority areas such as Tourism, Agriculture, Fisheries and Art and Music. Alexa Cooper-Grant, Vice President-SME Development expressed that “we would like to see an increase in persons taking advantage of this programme. We encourage locally owned small businesses and start-ups to take advantage of the opportunity and apply for financial assistance, technical assistance and/or customs duty reduction.” Mrs. Cooper-Grant further stated that business owners who are interested in applying receives one on one consultations with Invest TCI and representatives of the CED and who offer support with formulating a business plan and completing the application process.
Commenting on the campaign, Trina Adams-Smith, Vice President of Marketing and Promotion for Invest TCI stated, “Persons can look out for new billboards around the Islands, radio and newspapers advertisements featuring recent recipients speaking on their personal experiences, road shows and various social media advertisements amongst other efforts. Our hope is that this campaign educates, empowers and enables small business owners to fulfil their entrepreneurial dreams and ensure they receive financial and technical support, as well as guidance once they qualify for assistance.”
Featured in the campaign is recent recipient and small family business, Ocean Breeze Laboratories ran by Cornelius Forbes and his family of Five Cay’s Providenciales. The manufacturer of washing detergents and household cleaning products commenting on the programme stated, “Our family business benefited from over $20K in cash grant and technical assistant as well as reduction on duty concessions. The process was seamless, and the support received from Invest TCI was invaluable.”
