BAHAMAS: Foreign Affairs Participates in 48th Regular Session of the General Assembly of the OAS

#Nassau, June 5, 2018 – Bahamas – The Honorable Darren A. Henfield, MP, Minister of Foreign Affairs, leads The Bahamas delegation to participate in the 48th Regular Session of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS), 4-5 June, 2018 at the OAS Headquarters in Washington, DC.  Other members of the delegation include Sharon Brennen-Haylock, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Sidney Collie Ambassador/Permanent Representative to the OAS, Alternative Representatives to the OAS; and diplomatic Staff members of the Permanent Mission of The Bahamas to the OAS in Washington, D.C

The General Assembly, which takes place annually, is the principal decision-making body of the OAS.  Ministerial led delegations from member states of the OAS participate in meetings of the Assembly, as well as Observers from other   states.  The Session covers a range of reports dealing with issues of pressing relevance to the Hemisphere such as poverty eradication, development assistance, climate change and the annual budget of the organization.  Ministers will also examine the outcome of the recent Summit of the Americas that took place in Lima, Peru, April, 2018.

The annual Assembly also provides the opportunity to organize bilateral meetings for Ministers to discuss issues of mutual interest. As such, Minister Henfield is expected to have bilateral meetings with several Member-states such as The United States, Haiti and Panama.
