#GrandTurk, Turks and Caicos Islands – Monday, May 28, 2018 – Today the Turks and Caicos Islands remembers its fallen first democratically elected leader, the Rt. Excellent James Alexander George Smith McCartney. It is also a public holiday.
At the national Memorial service is where country, church and civic leaders will join the family of the TCI’s first Chief Minister for what is often a somber but inspiring occasion. Speakers over the years are known for fiery charges that match JAGS’ uncompromising stance for islanders to truly be designers and leaders of their own national destiny.
It is expected that stand out Turks and Caicos Islander, attorney-at-law, Kerchelle Bain will bring a riveting reminder of who Turks and Caicos Islanders already are, what more each can be and why it is important to live in that reality.
Bain, whose record as a young leader is unquestionable once represented country and school in Belize, was named a Baptist church youth ambassador and is a founding member and former president of the Turks and Caicos Overseas Students Association‘ (TOSA) in the UK.
A provided profile also says this: Ms Kerchelle Bain was born and raised on the island of Providenciales to Mr and Mrs Carl and Judy Bain. She hails from the beautiful settlement of Five Cays. Over the years she has been an active young member in her community and is often seen occupying many different capacities.
From a very young age Ms Bain has demonstrated her passion for her country particularly in working with her fellow youth. She has since served in many positive roles – from one of the youngest youth workers at her local church Paradise Baptist and President of the TCI Overseas Students Association to a personal mentor for many aspiring young persons to name a few.
During the year 2014-2015 Ms Bain was selected to serve as a National Youth Ambassador for the Turks and Caicos Islands where she proudly represented her beloved country; her chosen platform “Preparing the Youth of the Turks and Caicos Islands for a future worthwhile.”
Ms Bain firmly believes that it is only through the passing down of our history, heritage, culture and wisdom to the younger generations will the TCI be positioned for an enriched future. Ms Bain is currently a practicing attorney of these islands, having returned home from the United Kingdom and been admitted to the Bar of the Turks and Caicos Islands.
She has also recently been appointed Secretary of the TCI Bar Council.
As a patriotic young citizen of great character, integrity and faith, Ms Bain joins us here today to speak on this year’s theme “Enriching our Heritage, Promoting our Culture”.
The National Memorial Service begins at 10am in the capital of the country, Grand Turk and is aired live on national radio.
