Public Forecast for The Bahamas and the Turks & Caicos Islands

#Bahamas, November 11, 2017 – Nassau – THIS IS A PUBLIC FORECAST FOR THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT SATURDAY 11TH NOVEMBER 2017 ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY AT 12PM.

GENERAL SITUATION:  A TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE ALONG WITH A MID LEVEL TROUGHING ACROSS THE SOUTHEAST BAHAMAS  AND TURKS & CAICOS ISLANDS CONTINUES TO SUPPORT SOME UNSETTLED WEATHER IN THE AREA.   MEANWHILE HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM NORTH OF THE AREA WILL KEEP BRISK WINDS OVER THE AREA.

SPECIAL WARNINGS: MARINERS AND BEACHGOERS SHOULD EXERCISE EXTREME CAUTION DUE TO DANGEROUS RIP CURRENTS AND ROUGH SURF ALONG NORTHERN AND EASTERN SHORELINES.

 

NORTHWEST AND CENTRAL BAHAMAS

 

WEATHER: PARTLY SUNNY, WARM AND BREEZY TO WINDY CONDITIONS WITH FEW ISOLATED PASSING SHOWERS LIKELY. FAIR, BREEZY AND WARM TONIGHT.

ADVISORY: SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT.

WINDS:NORTH-NORTHEAST TO EAST-NORTHEAST AT 15 TO 25 KNOTS OVER OPEN WATERS.

SEAS: 5 TO 8 FEET OVER THE OCEAN.

WEATHER: PARTLY CLOUDY TO CLOUDY, BREEZY AND WARM TODAY WITH FEW SCATTERED SHOWERS OR ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS LIKELY. CLOUDY AND WINDY TONIGHT WITH LINGERING SHOWERS LIKELY.

ADVISORY: SMALL CRAFT SHOULD CONTINUE TO EXERCISE CAUTION TODAY BUT AN ADVISORY WILL COME INTO EFFECT TONIGHT.

WINDS: NORTHEAST TO EAST AT 15 TO 20 KNOTS TODAY, BUT INCREASING TO 15 TO 25 KNOTS TONIGHT.

WEATHER OUTLOOK FOR SUNDAY: CLOUDINESS AND SHOWERS WITH POSSIBLE THUNDERSTORMS WILL CONTINUE TO AFFECT THE CENTRAL, SOUTHEAST BAHAMAS AND THE TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS BUT PARTLY SUNNY AND WINDY CONDITIONS CONTINUE OVER THE NORTHWEST BAHAMAS.

 

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK: A NON-TROPICAL AREA OF LOW PRESSURE IS FORECAST TO FORM DURING THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS JUST A FEW HUNDRED MILES SOUTH-SOUTHWEST OF THE AZORES.   THIS LOW COULD AQUIRE SOME SUBTROPICAL CHARACTERISTIC BY THE MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK WHILE IT MOVES GENERALLY NORTHEASTWARD.  FORMATION CHANCE THROUGH THE NEXT 48 HOURS IS LOW, AT NEAR 0 PERCENT AND FORMATION CHANCE THROUGH 5 DAYS IS LOW, AT ABOUT 30 PERCENT.ELSEWHERE TROPICAL CYCLONE FORMATION IS NOT EXPECTED THROUGH THE NEXT 5 DAYS.
