Bahamas Public Forecast for 18th September 2017

#Bahamas, September 18, 2017 – Nassau – THE PUBLIC FORECAST FOR 12:00 PM THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT MONDAY 18TH SEPTEMBER 2017, ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY.

GENERAL SITUATION:  THE COMBINATION OF A WEAK PRESSURE PATTERN AND A TRAILING TROUGH EXTENDING FROM HURRICANE JOSE CONTINUES TO INFLUENCE THE WEATHER ACROSS THE BAHAMAS.

SPECIAL WARNINGS: BOATERS SHOULD CONTINUE TO BE ALERT FOR THE POTENTIAL OF WATERSPOUTS AND MODERATE TO LARGE SWELLS OVER THE OCEAN. BEACH-GOERS SHOULD ALSO REMAIN ALERT FOR THE RISK OF RIP CURRENTS AT BEACHES MAINLY ALONG THE NORTHERN AND EASTERN SHORELINES.

WEATHER:  MOSTLY SUNNY AND HOT WITH A FEW WIDELY SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THE CHANCE OF ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS MAINLY ACROSS THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHEAST BAHAMAS THIS AFTERNOON. MOSTLY FAIR AND WARM TONIGHT.

ADVISORY:  BOATERS SHOULD BE ALERT FOR GUSTY WINDS AND HIGHER SEAS IN OR NEAR HEAVY SHOWERS OR THUNDERSTORMS.

WINDS:  VARIABLE AT 10 KNOTS OR LESS OVER OPEN WATERS.

SEAS:  1 TO 3 FEET BUT UP TO 6 TO 8 FEET IN NORTH TO NORTHEASTERLY SWELLS OVER THE OCEAN.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK:   PLEASE LATEST NEWS ITEM ON HURRICANE JOSE, LOCATED A FEW HUNDRED MILES SOUTHEAST OF CAPE HATTERAS, NORTH CAROLINA, ON TROPICAL DEPRESSION LEE, LOCATED OVER THE EASTERN ATLANTIC OCEAN, AND ON HURRICANE MARIA, LOCATED JUST EAST OF THE LESSER ANTILLES. RESIDENTS ARE ASKED TO PAY ATTENTION TO THE PROGRESS OF MARIA.   ELSEWHERE TROPICAL CYCLONE FORMATION IS NOT EXPECTED DURING THE NEXT 5 DAYS.
